Talib Kweli had the best take about this...99% of rappers from the 90s wouldn't even exist if they dropped their first album today, because current rappers are much better at understanding the technical aspects of music.

He got albums that can compete with Nina Simone, Prince and Radiohead best albums.
Nobody cares about the era he comes from...he's the only rapper to ever make perfectly musically composed rap albums

Well go compare him to Nina Simone and Radiohead. This is hiphop:pacspit:

These are the types of fans who are dismissive of hip hop trying to elevate Kendrick. His fanbase is a really weird dynamic like weve never seen before. Be very vigilant folks. This is like in Blade 2 where there was a new hybrid vampire created that even vampires feared. They are very covert and may even appear as "real hiphop heads" until you let them keep talking:respect:

Hip hop is music. If the music is not good, the "hip hop album" isn't good either, specially considering how plenty of other genres have influenced hip hop.
These are the types of fans with no musical knowledge, relying on their subjective taste to discuss hip hop :pacspit:

You can be chosen all you want if you don’t know what to do with it you’ll suffer the same fate. Look at all the talented rappers that were pushed by a machine and they still fell into the abyss. The thing about Kendrick is he doesn’t operate on like a machine artist remember there was a time he wasn’t dropping music for 5 years. Most nikkaz machine or not don’t have that luxury if they ain’t super talented.
This the number 1 thing people miss when they bring up plant shyt, the people have to like you for any of that shyt to even work.

Man STFU

Y'all glazers got him competing with Prince now? Prince. Y'all some stupid MFers.

Prince is arguably the best musician of all time...man transcended genres, created his own lane, owned a decade, internationally renowned, played dozens of instruments, produced his albums, arranged his albums,
and still outperformed everyone live without breaking a sweat.

I hate that y'all YNs so blinded by this fake conscious midget y'all would say some outlandish shyt :scust:
Prince himself admitted Kendrick was competiting with him.

Prince himself was influenced by Kendrick on his last album.

No question,i completely agree with that. Kendrick was an example of industry plant put to good use. But it doesnt change the fact that they bought out a trampoline to help him dunk. And once we saw how creative his dunks were,we lowered the rim. Does this take away from the creativity of his dunks? Absolutely not.

But does it make him Jordan/Vince Carter:respect:?

See an I see this as facetious. If Drake didn’t have Wayne he would have been the next Kardinal. If Cole didn’t have Hov he would have been Petey Pablo. Future was in the dungeon family had deep hip hop roots in the south. Like what we talking about here all the nikkaz I listed some how got a push. They all had the talents to push forward and have the people fukk with them. I remember Mims this is why I’m hot was the biggest record it was in commercials was all over the radio but guess what the nikka wasn’t creative enough to move past that hit and is in the abyss.

guess we have diff definitions of what classic is
Indeed, when an album is recognized for being perfect, flawless from a pure musical and quality angle, and also influenced the goat musicians, its indeed a classic. Turns out Kendrick has a bunch of them. Like Common said, he might even be the rapper with the most classic albums under his belt :yeshrug:

If by classic, you're talking about an album that is up to your own tastes, then indeed, we have a very different definition. I put my personal preferences aside when reviewing an album and discussing about an album's legacy.

He has more classic albums than most of my favorite mcees from the 90s so he would still be Outkast status in the 90s.

In hiphop the more knowledge you have of other music, the more comprimised and less hiphop you are. The streets decide what great hiphop is and what it consist of. Thats the reason all you Kendrick stans are so elated right now. He finally feels validated for real by the streets.

Dont bring your outsider standards to hiphop,we dont care. We are tired of Kendrick stans trying to introduce new metrics and random espn stats to elevate him. Yall are like the new fans who keep bringing up analytics to discuss whos great at basketball. We are purist who really watch and know the game:pacspit:

Bro I feeling like an outsider on here.

Kendrick dope but I only really like section 80 from his entire discography :yeshrug:
Thats fine because you're free to enjoy wtvr you want...but objectively, s80 is by far his weakest album...but its also true that every kendrick album was made for a different audience. Might be why you only like it (but its by far the weakest)

Other than that, he has a monster discography, including the #1 AND #2 highest rated rap albums in history, and for legitimate reasons :yeshrug:
