Kendrick's only luster is the label's push. He's done nothing exciting in hiphop AT ALL.
ALL HIS ATTENTION is purchased.
He just won a grammy for a song that had a gigantic push, yet it still fizzled and didnt really hit.
Meanwhile drake put out a song with lil push was more popular than "I" and he doenst win.
Speaking of 'I', I really wish they had found somebody to compose it better
I could hear where they were going with the discordance and dizzy feeling in the song but it didn't click, like how it did in "Never Catch Me"

I think this would've been a song that Interscope should've negotiated to put out there it has a conscious meaning while being sonically pleasing to the ears

I don't know why it didn't, I think it would have been really popular
maybe they thought the jazz breaks would have made people disinterested?

The jazz breaks remind me of do you remember that Nickelodeon cartoon Little bill.

The fact that Kendrick sampled the Isley brothers "Hey Lady" with such little to distinguish it from the original probably turned away the potential 30+ year old audience he could've gained. You know the people that say back in my day we listened to real music unlike you young folks.

I totally forgot about little bill, that show was so cute

I didn't even know he sampled that, were people mad about it like with "Blurred Lines?"

See i can understand if a nikka real young and grew up off swag music etc, kdot's mediocre attempts at being "different" might seem like a breath of fresh air. But if you came up on 90's shyt and still revisit it regularly,i dont see how kdot could impress you.

Word. exactly how I feel. Wise Intelligent done been better than Kendrick, still is now too AND is different. And I love Wise but he wasn't even considered 1 of the elite rappers of the 90's. Some people are easily impressed.

I don't think people were mad but when you sample a classic song you have to do it justice. Another factor that contributed to "I" not doing to well is they promoted the single for atleast 3 weeks with cover art instead of putting it our there and seeing if people would organically groove to it

The thing about Kendrick is he has quite a balance of songs ranging from club bangers, intrsopective, conscious upliftng records, political songs, songs for the ladies, etc. Granted he isn't the Goat, but he does what many other underground scientific rappers fail to do and that is make music that can appeal to many different demographics, also his voice inflections are often utilized as an instrument so he has everything from aggressive delivery that the streets can fukk with, to the powerful emotional delivery that can evoke emotion. Kendrick has found the bridge between the underground hip hop nostalgia fans and the mainstream turn up audience

Ok, I'm not saying you can't feel how you feel. But I'm going to feel how I authentically feel too, there's no need to be mad about my opinion. Doesn't change yours, I feel Kendrick doesn't excel in these areas, what is Kendrick's great love songs for instance? When I think of an artist like Pac for instance something comes to mind, even KRS has a love song I like A LOT, better than any Kendrick song actually to me. I don't like his voice actually, mm the aggressive delivery sounds a bit shouty, I don't think the streets fukk with Kendrick heavy like that, especially if based off aggression. But ok, if that's how you feel so be it, I don't catch no feelings if you like him or not, but I can't fake my own opinions either.

Oh, it's THAT lady, that song is groovy :stylin:
Yeah, I remember that, the cover art got everyone really hyped up, and when the song came out, a lot of people were like :patrice:
