I mean Lupe was on Atlantic, a label that once owned 50% of Interscope but sold their share after activists opposing gangster rap came out in droves in the mid 90s .

You can kind of see that with Time Warner pulling the strings Atlantic aren't really willing to mess with hip hop 100 % .

Hell they even blocked Weird Al Yankovich from doing a parody when he had artist permission .

Not that I'm convinced the label forced Lupe's hand as much as he claims, but Kendrick was also in a much different accommodating situation on Interscope and getting Dr. Dre to understand his direction.
