Em is an incredible lyricist. The black community knocks him cause of the subject matter and the racist tapes, but from a technical standpoint, he's a monster... And you can ask any rapper that precedes him their thoughts on Eminem. From Rakim, to Ice-T to Treach to Jay Z.
There's a reason why Nas used the line "And Eminem killed you on your own shyt" on Ether.

I think his subject matter more than anything is what makes him great, he's not on my mt rushmore of rappers but he should be be in most rap historians/fans top 10. I use to knock him on his subject matter & say he gets away with pushing the envelope in a way a black rapper couldn't. Em dressed in drag in that D12 my band video, as great as nas, jay, scarface or cube is the blacklash for them pulling that stunt would've killed their careers.

BUT on the flipside that made me respect EM more because if he wore a grill & tried to talk "black" then he would be labeled a wigga & his career would've never taken off regardless of his skill. I'm NOT knocking a guy like Paul Wall, but when he was on the old swishahouse tapes(outside of houston) people didn't know he was white with gold teeth & braids, people thought chamillionaire was white.

Point is I salute em for finding his own lane & not disrespecting the culture. He takes on the title of being a MC very serious, also his wordplay & cadence are 2nd to none.
