However what can be discussed was whether he can be classed as an "active" gang member, which I don't believe he was.

He was definitely trying to better things within his community, by denouncing the negativity that gang culture brings and using the culture to make positive relationships and contributions.

I'm surprised there's been so few details on who the getaway driver is, their criminal history/parole status, and what did they know about what was going down.

It's an impractical law that is meant to be broken, placed in the way of felons on parole or probation so that they have a difficult time legally acclimating to a life outside of prison. Do you see the same restrictions applied to predominantly white felons who were convicted of white collar crime, laws that forbid them from being in the company of anyone associated with corporate America?

White collar criminals convicted of crimes often find themselves unlicensed, disbarred, ostracized, heavily fined, etc.. Beyond that though, they're not typically hanging around 10 deep on a corner, or house, or patrolling the neighborhood, generally making a nuisance of themselves, making themselves and their communities targets of violence from rivals putting civilians and children at risk, etc..

You're comparing apples and oranges and let's not act like the average banger who comes home after a stint is going to increase his chances at productivity by hanging around his comrades. Lathan’s arrest was first reported by TMZ on Friday. The Sheriff’s Department spokesman could not say how Lathan violated his parole, but parolees are often barred from fraternizing with known felons or gang members as a condition of their release.
