I consider curry an all time great. and the best offensive player in the league
My thing is, he's not going to be placed, IMO, over great two way players. Kwahi can't score like him. But his huge gap in defense vs curry makes up for the few fewer points he scores.
It's not like we comparing 30 ppg to 10. Chris Paul ain't too far off ppg of curry, but I know I can stick him on point guard in the league. And the assists are close as well
So top 3. Nah. He's a one fukking amazing trick pony. He can score. But put him on the cavs or clippers or any other team without 4 all pros, I don't see him carrying a team on his back
You really can't stick Paul on any point guard in this league. That's actually the problem when comparing two way players, it's overstated just how great they are and how influential they can be against top competition.
Last time Paul saw Westbrook in the playoffs this happened
Now if that was Steph Curry we'd be talking about how he got exposed against an elite PG. In reality he's as reliant on the teammates around him as Curry or any other great point guard in this league
Offensively Paul doesn't play with near the same aggression nor are defenses as afraid of him nor is he as skilled as a shooter or finisher. It might seem like they're relatively close offensively, but they're on different levels.
Same goes for Kawhi who's increased offensive usage has actually led to worse defensive impact than we've seen in recent seasons. He's not playing like a DPOY right now, and the Spurs thus far are much worse defensively than they were last year. He is reliant on the guys around him too.
As for his ability to carry a team without a bunch of stars around him, Curry already proved that four seasons ago. People forget about how good he was prior to the MVP talk
I get the sentiment but he for sure isn't one dimensional (and neither are Dirk or Nash who get tagged with that too). He does a lot of very difficult things at an elite level in this league, and all of that skill combined is why he's the b2b MVP with a stretch of play that rivals some of the best to ever do it
