Ummm...no.
Drake had money and POLITICS got him on, he ran out of bread trying to pay his way in.
I can name more examples.
Cosign x Momentum >>> Money and nothing else.
Money can buy a co-sign, I know this for a fact. Most of these co-signs aren't done out of genuine love for an artist, it's just business. Money can buy you features from top artist, money can buy you radio play, money can buy you shows, money can buy you press etc. All of that creates the momentum. The Drake situation sounds like to me it's still about the money expect they are getting it from him on the back-end instead of upfront. He ran out of money and went to somebody who had it. That's what it sounds like to me.

its just both man. If you got money thats good, but you got know how to spend that money right and you got to connect with the right nikkas when you get the opportunity. And when you DO get connects, you got to keep that relationship gravy. Like someone said earlier in the thread, he told one DJ to fukk off and the rest of the DJ's stopped fukking with him. Just got to play it smart

It's a complex game. If you don't have any connections then you are wasting money and time. That's why there are so many hustlers in the music industry fronting as a connect to a producer, label, rapper, mogul, etc... Then you got the people who really know the connects, but will do slimy shyt like make you sign to they company before they get you meetings so they eat off the back en and the front end of your deal. Finessing finders fees off both sides an all that shyt.

But money can get you on if you spend it right. I know for a fact that you could BUY a deal from Universal/Bungalo back in the mid 2000's. If you know how to hustle, you can turn a major record deal into income. Especially with independent artist who want to work with someone who is already "on" you can at least rack up on feature money for shyt that ain't gonna get cleared anyway ( which is a whole different subject and another dirty game)
Exactly. You spend enough money at musicxray.com and something is bound to pop off. Hell, those opportunities listed aren't available unless you spend the money. I know such and such doesn't apply. They'll tell you flat out no to contact them anywhere else but through that site.

if you think Quan wasn't doing free shows and other promotional things (like the other people on TIG) long before a dime came you a fool.

TIG is not a Def Jam to be giving out advances or anything like that. NO ONE knew Trinidad James was gonna blow so he was playing a team role before that took off the way it did.
There is something more to that Trinidad guy. He used to stay with videos on WSHH before he blew. He was even going under a different name. I don't know what the deal is but there is more to his story.

Are management contracts usually at-will or can there be set time periods? No guesses please. As we all know you will have a recording deal for x amount of albums, but can you manage a dude for a contract period of time, or can these disloyal bums just drop you whenever they want?
You have to remember that managers work for the artist, not the other way around. If your manager don't want to work for you then it's best to let them go. Otherwise they could intentionally screw up your career.

In this case, the manager seemed way more connected, established and in a stronger financial position than the artist. I'll work "with" some bum off the street who can rap, but not "for" him
