That's something that's been engrained in all of our cultures since colonization..
Dimming our light to make the next person comfortable.
I don't think that's natural for us though.
You should never look down on the next man for his condition in life compared to yours, and should always be charitable if you're blessed enough to do so.
But at the same time, it can only help us collectively, if we're able to witness each other constantly striving to reach our full potential, and not conforming to make others comfortable with themselves.
Sometimes you need to feel uncomfortable to wake yourself up.

Yeah, I said that in the thread title.
I always think back to the 9th grade where when we had to read out loud. I purposely stumbled over my words because most of the other kids couldn't read for shyt and I didn't want to stand out until I heard this cac next to me snicker as I read. Mid-sentence I switched it up and read clearly and without issue. I never pulled that kind of self-deprecating move again.
I hold onto that memory because it reminds me not to lower myself to make someone else feel better about themselves and this is another good reminder to make sure people recognize when I excel. I'm not here to be another crab in the barrel.

Good intentions pave that path brightly.
Straight up a lot of people downplay themselves in order to fit in with average people and be well liked. But what they dont realize is that the people lower than them KNOW that they're lower and therefore resent them for being on their level when they should be higher. So sacrificing your own greatness for others never actually works.

I can say with full confidence, that this has never been an issue for me. Its really wild how you get flak for just standing firm in ANYTHING...especially when its for yourself.

I'm a naturally humble dude but years ago I took notes from Deion Sanders and created a "Prime Time" type character. I started to have an alter ego where I promoted myself & brought attention when I did things in order to show that I was dope at what I did. Got a promotion almost immediately.
You gotta be your own hypeman. People will try to have short-term memory, so you best to make them recognize that you're special before you're taken for granted.

I get what he's saying and he's not wrong you, but you can be a winner and not allow yourself to become an azzhole in the process.
