One of his biggest talking points was shyt gets difficult if you’re a woman of a certain age looking for a certain thing…

Biography
Dr. Sydney Lewis is a lecturer in The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Lewis’s areas of interest include gender performance and performativity, Black feminist theory and culture, Black queer theory, “mad” studies and disability justice, and intersectional Black liberation. Through an interdisciplinary approach, Lewis’s research and teaching strives to blur the boundaries between the academy, art, and activism. When Lewis isn’t teaching, she’s watching bad television, curled up with her cats, or thrift shopping.
"The course, titled “Intro to Fat Studies: Fatness, Blackness and Their Intersections,” will be taught by Sydney Lewis, a senior lecturer in the Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS). Her scholarship focuses on trying to “blur the boundaries between the academy, art, and activism,” according to a university website.
Students enrolled in the course will earn three general education credits. The course will satisfy a student’s humanities and diversity coursework requirements.
“Though we will look at fatness as intersectional, this course will particularly highlight the relationship between fatness and Blackness,” the course description reads. “We approach this area of study through an interdisciplinary humanities and social-science lens which emphasizes fatness as a social justice issue.”
The class will also address “fat liberation” and explore the use of “performing arts and activism as a vehicle for liberation.” Students will also consider ways to challenge “fatmisia,” or a prejudice toward fat and obese people."
