It caused the same uproar when analysis said Jeter was the worst SS in baseball. These are the same clowns that used to argue Kobe wasn't the best player in the league during his prime eventhough all his peers said so.
I personally don't waste my time with people like this. They're obviously clueless about reality.
It caused the same uproar when analysis said Jeter was the worst SS in baseball.
Yet we now know they were right.
But basketball is much slower than baseball to accept the realities of metrics analysis.
Fair enough.Baseball is also a one off event with isolated individual matchups. Even though I'm not an analytics guy, I can accept it's legitimacy in a sport like baseball.
Basketball and Soccer on the other hand are free flowing sports with 10-22 men moving at the same time all impacting the game. They are sports where someone who never touches the ball during a possesion could have the most influence. Which is why I've always been skeptical of it's application in those sports.
If basketball analytics actually had some predictive value to validate it, I might accept it more. But till them I'll trust my eyes over the numbers. Because my eyes can see that those things the stat sheet misses.
Don't worry.
They tried to slander Bill James too.
Stans gon Stan tho.
You gotta love it when numbers shatter perception.
Yes.
That's why we have statistical analysis: to cut through the bias of perception.

Why? Am I talking above you with these unbiased statistical concepts?
I think you need to keep your ass in TLR.
So the numbers hate Kobe? The media is responsible for the man being so overrated in the first place. You wouldn't need articles like this if the perception of Kobe wasn't so skewed. Like his reputation for being clutch when the game's on the line. Due to him taking a lot of shots in crunch time and hitting some memorable game winners he's elevated as some top level closer, but when you look at the actual numbers for Kobe in the crunch you see that he's nowhere near as good as the hype.It has nothing to do with race.
Kobe hate is some weird phenomenon that effects everyone including those who work in the Media.
i mean he's awful now and it's funny/sad to watch but you gotta just take it for what it is., his body of work speaks for itself

Yes watching games is perception bias.Is actually watching the games "perception bias"? Because I saw Drexler and Miller in their primes and neither was close to being in the same league as Kobe.
