not even that really becuz they still have to pay him.
Theyd still have to pay him his 30 mil but if they dont amnesty him, they pay his 30 mil and an additional 50 mil or some obscene amount in taxes.

I dont see the amnesty happening but if Dwight walks, they might as well since their only hope of being competitive is a healthy Dwight. Without him, theyre a lottery team even if Kobe comes back 100%

Bruhs, I don't count anything out when it comes to business. I think the Lakers and Kobe's situation might end up like the Colts and Peyton.:sadcam:

In all honesty, the Lakers can't bring that same pathetic roster back next season. Other teams in the west are young and other teams are getting younger. You can't pay a guy $30 million post lock-out.

TYRONE GA!
:snoop:

Kobe is a free agent after next season, cutting his contracts only sheds tax dollars which would be a petty move. This and the Shaq situation don't compare at all.

I'd definitely take advantage of him being an expiring before amnesty.

Bean, Pau are both expiring deals.

Rather do that than amnesty with nothing in return.

Problem is that no one believes in Dwight like that.

SINY!!
The tax thing isnt a big deal to the Lakers. Didnt they sign some crazy television deal not to long ago?

Its an example of why teams like the Lakers, Knicks, Bulls, etc can afford to keep these kinds of contracts on their rosters, even with the tax penalties. You dont think the league is aware of this? They kinda have to sell it because it would undermine the CBA, and upset the smaller market teams who thought the playing field was being leveled.

Kobe isnt going anywhere......Artest is the likely candidate for the amnesty. With Pau they can at least dangle his expire contract as an asset and get something back

thats the point

best draft in years

only contract lakers have on the books is nash

smartest move is to sit kobe all year, dump nash for an expiring, come back with a rested kobe, a cheap gasol, a top 5 rookie in a stacked draft and 45-50 mil in cap room

So a 2014-2015 team with an aging Pau, a withered Kobe, a lottery pick, and two lower tier max contract guys? That's what you're banking on? :usure:

The Lakers are in good position to rebuild but rushing things for Kobe's sake would sabotage the whole process.
