Pearlman comes off as not liking Kobe. But Kobe was a complex individual. I read the Showboat book a while back about Kobe by Roland Lazenby and a lot of his need to be the alpha comes from his parents. Joe didn’t have that personality and wanted Kobe to have it. He wasn’t interested in Shaq being his big brother although they were reportedly cool his rookie year.

He was just one of the more complex personalities we’ve seen in sports history.

I heard the author talk on Dan and he was honest. The book was completed before he died, so his hands were tied. It wasn't a purposeful. Duke basically said Kobe was trying to find himself and put up that tough guy persona.

I agree but the way he carried himself through those times was different than how he did later on. Basically maturing but when he was younger he even spoke differently you can see it in old interviews. Like I said it wasn’t something just in your face but following Kobe so much I def remember those times back in the day when you can see him trying to put off a tough guy persona
Yeah Kobe his first 8 years or so spoke with a heavy Philly accent...then that shyt completely disappeared in like 2007 :mjlol:

Pearlman blatantly didn’t fukk with Kobe because Kobe gave him no access. Didn’t he call Kobe a rapist?

He did? shyt man he did that Showboat book. And a lot of other sports books especially the lakers always thought he was solid as a writer l.

Looked up some old interviews off the strength of this post I don’t hear no Philly accent
It's hard to find interviews and clips on YouTube now where he's speaking much but if you watch post-game interviews or the old Lakers documentaries you can hear it quite a bit. Peep the way he pronounces "-ar" and "-er" sounds especially.

Why people acting like nobody should tell kobe stories since he died unless they are positive? Any icon who has died have unflattering books, stories or movies made about them. Look at pac.

it makes fans uncomfortable because they worship professional athletes and celebrities that they don’t personally know

so he punched a guy big deal
