This is why I was shocked by how many people were claiming to be close to Kobe when he died

Seemed he was an aloof a$$hole who didn’t socialize with people much. I guess he changed as he got older

i think it was around 25-27 when he matured and started becoming closer with people. Like with Phil it was during that 2nd stint where they were able go build a bond. He definitely changed as he got older

I’ll say this, for everything that Kobe was on the court, and in the business room, he was not in real life, he was a kid that had to grow up in the nba, which is quite the feat, so he wanted to be like mike, so he read the playbook, but he skipped some chapters or stopped reading after a point, and adapted some things along the way, he had some natural abilities, but he got where he got by his work ethic period, and no one can take that away or deny it, but he was a herb and socially awkward and leaned in on that, i know for the stans he was what a few of you all wanted to be but you have to realize he wasn’t alpha male like you pedestal him to be, he married a young chick who from stories was for the streets, he was the same nikka in gq looking wildly light in the loafers, he was a terrible teammate who until he got older really didn’t know how to interact with his teammates off the court, and got caught up with a terrible looking white broad,( i judge him for fukking her, he literally could have any broad, and mike tried to teach him the game his dumb ass ain’t follow that playbook) yes Jordan was an a$$hole but he had enough “ je ne sais quoi” to overcome it, and he could make you feel great all while not giving a fukk about you after basketball ended that day, just because the man has left us doesn’t excuse what he was, that’s why you don’t worship athletes they have plenty of flaws like us

Good points made. How does one overcome being socially awkward and a herb??

by being one of the best at what they do :manny: He started off that way but as he grew he wasn't awkward anymore, he became a leader, learned how to build with his teammates, and became a great family man. Became respected by all his peers who judged him as a player and not off of off the court shyt. He just grew out of it basically.

Mitch has to somewhat be in you but, shyt he was a mj fan of you gonna follow his playbook follow all of it, also the god Patrice O’Neal, but bomani Jones is the literal example of a dude that went from lame to cool overtime and especially with his status

:hhh: No he didn’t, the championships brought the respect, most folks didn’t question him because the pedigree and you knew it was his team via management, he really didn’t come into his own until he retired when he finally relaxed and wasn’t so uptight, that was the Kobe worth knowing, i think someone sat him down and said you gotta approach life on and off the court differently

For anyone reading the book, in the early chapter titled 'Formation, ' the author harkens back to a rookie summer league game of Kobe's vs the Suns, and details nearly his every move en route to 36. Kobe forced nearly everything, but the author makes it clear the league was in store for something special.

This is that game.
