If Kobe could have averaged 40 he would've done it in 2006. As great as Kobe was he was never consistently great. He had off games were he would go 8 for 30 and end up with 18 or so points. That's why he is a 44% shooter for his career instead of a 50% one.

Because he was less efficient than his peers who he was regularly compared to. Overall, his efficiency numbers always placed him near the top of the league.
It was mostly swept under the rug because Kobe typically had much better teammates than his more efficient foes.

NAAH.. HE'S A 45% SHOOTER ON HIS CAREER BECAUSE OF HIS LAST COUPLE OF SEASONS, WHICH WERE INDEED INEFFICIENT DUE TO HIS PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS. IN HIS PRIME, HE WAS TYPICALLY AROUND 46%, WHICH IS EXCELLENT FOR A SHOOTING GUARD IN HIS ERA, WHO WAS A SHOOT FIRST, DOUBLE-TRIPLE TEAMED, AND SHOT AS MANY PERIMETER SHOTS AS HE DID.

What's your baseline for efficiency? It's funny how kobestans fixate only on True Shooting %, which is an "advanced stat" but decry any other "advanced stat" that shows he was a high volume chucker.
I think kobe holds the record for most games with 40 or more shots with less than 50 points. He holds the record for most missed shots in a game, going 17-47. Against an EC team. In his prime.

He had the ball more than any point guard did. He wasn't a Rip Hamilton out there. His assist numbers were low when you consider his usage rate. Look at the assist numbers of Wade, LeBron, Harden, or other non point guards who had a similar role.

Why hasn't nobody did it since? Lebron & Wade had season where they scored 30.0 PPG with teams they had to lead. He'll lebron carried garbage to the finals in 07. Why hasn't nobody put up the #s kobe did with better efficiency? If it took kobe 100 shots then it should of only taken 20 shots for a player with better efficiency to do the same in less time, right?
