Underrated because people have overshot the he was overrated shyt by a mile... Towards the end he was bad, but for the bulk of his career he was solid... Honestly don't think I've ever saw a single player ever have people obsess negatively over their all defense selections... And nobody says stupid patently false shyt like "he can guard all five positions"

You're an overrated person and poster. You just stand around waiting for Kobe related threads just to chime in with unwavering hate. You mainly get daps on Kobe hate. Overrated poster.
The debate today should be whether Kobe could have been a perennial all NBA defender if given the opportunity. While I thought he overemphasized one on one matchups and got teammates out of sync on defense just like he did on offense, I'd be like :manny:

But he got those 1st team awards while standing around off ball and letting the Keith Bogans and Ronnie Brewers of the league roam free.

Is there another example of a guy resting on offense and guarding the other teams worst player and still getting first team nods over defensive specialists every single season?

I don't think it's a big deal that he didn't bother with defense. A lot of primary scorers don't put a lot of effort on that end and there are a lot of defensive guys who are trash offensively as well. Kobe's defense only became a big deal because the media and coaches slobbered over it and made it a big deal.

Allen iverson? Tracy mcgrady?

Dude ai was 6" and 160lbs soak and wet he routinely got outmuscled or was simply shot over and after larry brown and dikembe left so did the slicers elite D and while Yao was good he wasn't a great defender and was often hurt

Kobe from like 99-02 was a great defender from 03 to say 07 he was good from 07 to 10 he was good in spots but mainly roamed and those all defensive team nods should've went to ariza and artest for they were the lakers premier wing defenders at the time after say 2010/2011 kobe was a poor defender lack of effort and he simply didn't rotate

Thats because he was Laker's number 1 offensive player. Players who are elite offensive players like to have a break on defense. They usually guard the worst player on the other team.

When shaq left, he had the burden of carrying the offensive load for the Lakers, if he had to play defense too ,it would have been difficult.

Mj,Duncan,kg,bron,Olajuwon, the glove, kawhi are and were first options on their teams and never sacrificed defensively

even though he has more first team all defense than Lebron and Rightly so, I'll say in his prime, he was still severely underrated because his off ball defense didn't consist of cowardly weakside chase down blocks and steals leading to flashy power dunks.

How is getting a block cowardly you can't seriously believe the dumb shyt you're saying get that hate out your heart

Kobe is a top 10 all time perimeter defender. He was a monster on defense when he put his mind to it.

Quick reminder that a teenage Kobe lockdown prime Iverson:wow:

Jordan DID sacrifice defensively, it was Pippen who defended the best perimeter players most of the time. See Michael vs. Magic. Lebron is also guilty of not defending the best perimeter players too, smh, y'all just don't want to see it.

Nah they don't want to see this, they're only going to remember the good games vs. the Lakers.

Pippen was also on the 1st team. Kobe was making 1st team while the better defenders on his team getting the tougher matchups weren't even getting votes :heh:

Okay? Refutes nothing I said about first options sacrificing on defense. Stop trolling.
