Think he’s making a mistake

Yeah should take that baseball money.

If he becomes a franchise QB, he can make just as much money playing football as he could playing baseball. Franchise QBs are now making $30mil/yr in the NFL. And they can have long careers into their late 30s. So over the long term, Kyler can make just as much money in the NFL as he would playing baseball.

Unless Kyler is also gonna be superstar baseball player, he probably won't make more money in baseball than he will in football as a franchise QB.

You got it backwards. The cap on what baseball teams are allowed to pay rookies means football money is better early on. That 4mil contract he's getting is all he'd get for years until he (if) he made the majors, and then after that those mega bucks baseball contracts don't kick in until you hit free agency and baseball deals are designed to keep you underpaid until you're 28-32. And minor league baseball players make WAY less than the "pennies" NFL players make.

The economic move is the one he's making. Get a big rookie deal in the NFL and then move to baseball in a few years if it isn't working out.
1st round QB - team will commit to you for at least 3 years, if no character issues.

if he's even MEDIOCRE after his rookie contract, he gets a guaranteed $5 mil per year for the rest of his career as a journeyman / backup. if he's above average and an established starter, he gets $20mil a year contract.

in baseball, he might be stuck in AAA forever. there's 0 guarantee if he succeeds. and even if he does succeed, he's only gonna get that $100 mil contract 8 years from now.

Said in the other thread he should play whatever drafts him higher. A team invests in him as their franchise then have at it. But if it's MLB :hula:2nd-3rd round deal, then go be my future son's role model

He gotta make it to that second contract first.

U see with even mariota and jameis these guys struggling to even get to that second deal.

Jameis shouldve went baseball too. Guaranteed money

He already gets 4.6 Mil just to play in spring training as a signing bonus, so he’s good on money, but I’d seriously reconsider this decision, both long and short term. Hopefully his QB career pans out, but if it doesn’t, he can always try his hand at baseball again.

There’s plenty of articles from very smart people detailing why Football is the smart move

The baseball money y’all thinking about doesn’t really exist unless you’re a power hitter or 1st baseman

Jameis did the right thing

Technically he hasn't chosen anything yet. This is just a move to keep his options open. More than likely he'll report to the A's in February/March, NFL draft is in April. Will be interesting to see where he is drafted when there is no guarantee he'll actually play football. Will a team try and strong-arm the situation and draft him top 10?

Kyler is a power hitter. He has a Mookie Betts/Acuna/Trout-type upside as a world-class athlete with actual baseball skills. His path to success is way clearer as a baseball player than as a QB. Jameis' path was clear-cut as a physically prototypical QB without a transcendent tool on the baseball field.

But if he gets that (second) top 10 check then :manny:

He'll be a part of a Black takeover in his sport either way :myman:

The arbitration system in baseball is a fukking joke, wouldn't blame Kyler for chasing that QB money.

I think he has all the skills in the world, I would just be concerned about durability at his size. The NFL protects QBs more than ever, but I don't think someone with his style of play can consistently last a whole season at 5'9 185 lbs. He'll need to bulk up, but if he does, I think his potential is off the charts with the way the game is played today
