That pick is top-3 protected, so the Timberwolves end up with too ugly a record and those lottery balls fall right then Golden State won't get the pick at all.And they have Minnesota’s first round pick. They currently have the second worst record in the league.
Considering the timeline they're on with Steph/Klay/Dray, if I were them I'd wait until Minny was at a point where it looked like GS would get the pick (say when Minny just had the 4th or 5th worst record in the league) and then trade it for an asset that pays off next season when they have a real shot at a ring. Otherwise they could end up not even getting to use the pick this year, then settling for a mid-range pick next year, and get someone who doesn't even help the team long-term or short-term.
