Good. The shyt is cruel. If someone lost their job and can’t pay rent, they shouldn’t be granted a grace period before being threatened with eviction?
some landlords do just that. i was laid off in 08 a few months after moving to DC. i wrote to my landlord to let them know my circumstance (young, a year outta college, used savings to move cross country, laid off) and he allowed me to pay reduced rent one month and no rent the next month when i couldn't pull it at all. once i got a new job, paid them back in full. some folks take and adversarial stance toward their landlord from the outset when simply developing a positive relationship is all you need.
i have one set of tenants who are superb, any time they have an issue, i'm on it! if they needed a month or two to get their rent together, they'd get it. not communicating or not having reason for not paying rent is the issue, and if your unemployment goes too long, then yes, a landlord has a right to move on from you, you're affecting their money and the bills they can pay.
