I really hate how people will take one thing and use that to discredit everything without knowing anything.

I'm going to drop these here:

The context of Hill's pregnancy is an important one, because her decision to give birth to Zion David Marley reflects the bold, headstrong character that allowed her to create one of the most influential hip-hop albums of all time. Reaching platinum status within a week and breaking the record for first-week sales by a female artist when it was released in 1998, Lauryn Hill's solo debut was explosive at the time, a remarkable achievement for an artist aged just 23. In the years since, the record has influenced countless artists, becoming a seminal entry in the hip-hop canon.

^^^ I encourage everyone to read this. When people say the New Ark group wrote and produced most of the songs, it is a LIE. Che Pope was a key producer on that album and if you doubt his talents, he has been a key producer for Kanye, Puff, and Dre. He talks about Lauryn's talent. If she was some talentless hack, he would've called her on it.

Too many musicians and producers have called her out for bullshyt, you can't point to one guy and say none of this is true. Robert Glasper aired her out. Talib Kweli aired her out. Black Milk, who did an entire album for her within the last decade only to have everything taken by her and was never paid, aired her out. The band members who sued and settled aired her out. We can go on and on. There is clearly something wrong with her mentally and emotionally, which she hides behind a bullshyt aura of spirituality. But you can't treat people like shyt and not expect blowback.

None of these people worked on that album. Whatever behavior they experienced from her is their experience. That doesn't excuse using that to discredit her, which is a lot of what's being done in this thread. I'm not a psychiatrist here to diagnose her mental state. I posted accounts from people who actually worked on the album.

And to top it all off, people act like well, she sold x amount of records, why wouldn't a label want a follow up. The same label wanted her to have an abortion. Read the article.

So why wasn’t she able to make another one. She is full of excuses man. Robert Glasper assessment of her is on point.

His assessment of her isn't on point because his experience with her is doing shows. He wasn't there for her creating music. She's worked extensively with artists who have spokenbhighly of her talents among them is Salaam Remi and I already mentioned Che Pope. There's also James Poyser.

Lol I remember reading an article like 15 years ago that Columbia gave her a $2 Million dollar budget for a follow up album and then ANOTHER $1 Million a few years later. She got THREE MILLION DOLLARS to make a sophomore album! fukk outta here chick! Your creatively tapped out. It happens.

Thats probably going to be Jay Electronica but at LEAST that nikka shows up on time for shows

I don't agree with her being late, but ya"ll sound funny with this "she only had one album" angle. How many people dropped an album that's over 20 years old that people stay paying money to see her perform songs from?

Personally, she's an artist I wouldn't pay to see perform. I already know she's going to be late and its going to be re-arranged versions of the songs. I can just catch it on Youtube. I don't knock anyone going to the concerts, but she's been doing this for over a decade. You know what you're getting from a Lauryn show at this point.

There are a lot of delusional people who have a personal connection with that album because of life issues they were having at the time.

That's most fans of any artist then because they are people that shell out house notes for a show.
