You sounding real Nintendo Stannish right now. Ole, "I don't like change, I want the same thing" ass...:hhh:

The things i mostly like about souls games were taken out for sekiro, exploration, finding valuable gear and weapons, custom builds/play styles, pvp, etc.. Sekiro felt more like Ninja Gaiden to me, and its just not my kind of game. I always encourage developers to try new things and change the formula it doesn’t mean its always gonna resonate with me. Like when they made Front Mission Evolved, its like cool that they tried it but I like front Mission as a turn based story heavy tactical rpg.

That’s what it is

There was still plenty of exploration in Sekiro tho. Hell, it was easier to do since you could actually jump and cuz of the grappling hook.

Thats not really what I mean..I mean the reward for exploration. Do I risk these 60k souls to jump across this ledge and see what that glory thing is? Should i spent the next minute hitting these walls to see if their is a illusionary door somewhere, should I kill that weird monster thing and see what it drops?

Souls games reward your curiosity more so than any other games I’ve played thats part of the appeal to me, the risk vs reward aspect to exploration. You have to really weigh your decision making.

Only cause you didn’t have the grappling hook which imo made it cheap cause you could always just grappling hook and run away. Made the regular encounters and even some of the mini bosses a lot less impactful.

THat's in your opinion. Also, it's not like you can't run away from mini bosses and enemies in Souls games. Grappling hook + jump just makes it easier. Both games, some of the enemies will give chase to you when doing that anyways, so....

And it very much has to do with you not liking/wanting change, cuz you keep talking about builds when this ain't an RPG, so builds aren't a part of the factor. You simply stating that either shows that you don't want action games from FromSoft and want their action rpgs instead or that they're action games aren't as good as their RPGs. Thus, you not wanting changing.

And even the whole dull "point" about Souls games "making you learn new skills or finding new equipment to succeed" is a bit off. They typically don't force you to change your builds up at all, just that they offer the capability of doing so and might be easier in some situations to do so. You can stick with one build from beginning to end of the games, if you want to. It might make it a lil more challenging for you, but you're certainly not forced into doing so in most cases, especially not in the non-optional points for progression.

They didn’t do anything but take a bunch of stuff out of their formula then add a grappling hook. And now it’s supposed to be a whole different genre of game :mjlol:

This isn’t true at all. Different areas and different bosses are more/less challenging depending on build. Obviously you can beat the game with any build as some people “can” beat it running around naked with one sword, but for the rest of us different weapons/ equipment, etc have a huge effect on success in the game.

But it is tho and you're underselling it and you know this...man. Grappling hook, stealth mechanics, dedicated jumping, defined character and more story-oriented focus, and gameplay grounded by and centered around a parry and stagger mechanic. All of this is what separates it from just being another Souls/Souls-lite game. It's essentially a hack n slash game, a la ninja gaiden, but with more truer ninja style elements and stealth. It's basically Tenshu on roids.

And all this is perfectly fine and acceptable for them to do and they excelled at doing it. I could see your issue with it if it was Dark Souls 4 and they "stripped away" its Souls elements in that fashion. Sure, it still has some of the Souls essence underneath the hood, but it's a totally brand new engine and car altogether.

And I you're saying the same thing I said, just flipped around. "More or less" challenging. I said just that. You're still not forced to change the way you play the game altogether and select an entirely new build. A grip of souls player will typically play "jack of all trades" build types with having a few select gear and weapons to change up gear. And another grip of them will simply OP a particular build type and go thru the game that way. Neither are wrong and both totally doable. So in essence, my original statement is actually very True at all.

Sekiro was boring. Parrying until enemies get tired was not fun at all. Game turned into powerup, parry, secret art, dash forward if possible, repeat until posture broken. Basically aggressive blocking. It was a chore to play.
