The plan has always been for him to do one year contracts until summer 2017 when the cap will go up to 100+ mil and he'll fully max out then. He's just maximizing his earning potential

I swore I read something that said that there was a cap loophole that if he opted out and resigned the 2 year with opt out after 1 he'd have to take a 3 million dollar pay cut. Looking for it now.

EDIT: Here's the article I read about that. LeBron to leave $3M on table to stay with Cavs. I guess I read it wrong. He'll make 3 million less compared to if he signed the same deal on another team.
