Lets be real. The only reason why Biggie is in anybodys top 5 is because Pac shytted on him.

That's what I'm saying breh, Canibus was all "potential" due to his lyrical prowess but never became an elite MC IMO.

I could argue Biggie while not nearly as bad,is just about as much of a creation as Drake, just another Puffy creation....Its unfortunate he's dead so what I believe can never be proven.....But Puff has gave a lot of average to above average rappers, and even somebody as horrible as himself solid and even great albums.....what have any of them done without him:francis:? Im not convinced Bigge would have been any different, alot of his most memorable songs are due to Puffy:manny:

To compare him to Pac and many other goats who have proven to do it without a all time great production teams is a insult:scust:....Not to mention the thought of Biggie ever being able to make a song like So Many Tears or Dear Mama:mjlol:.

That versatility:blessed:

The casual music fan knows Biggie for the songs that are Puffy's vision. If it wasn't for that his whole catalog would be "Gimme the Loot" and "Machine Gun Funk" . . due was a rapper, not an artist and his music isn't the result of his own vision. You can tell outside of "Big Poppa" and "One More Chance" Puffy basically gave him free reign on the rest of the tracks because they were nothing but filler and if you listen to them the whole thing is reiterations of the same shyt, you could exchange any line from "Gimme the Loot" and "Machine Gun Funk" and the difference would be inconsequential. Puffy was only concerned with the singles that sold the album, he didn't even bother to build an album around those tracks to make sure the singles were reflective of the overall project and sound of the artist. When you compare the singles to the rest of the album and remove the illusion you can build the case for a hit and run artist

Not my first time listening to it but I decided to listen to it today since it's the last day of my Apple Music trial. It's not on Illmatic level - I noticed on "Trife Life" Prodigy rhymed enemies with Hennessy . . . :usure:

I would only compare Thug Life: Volume 1 to an album with around an equal amount of tracks. I have Illmatic over Thug Life: Volume 1 and both of them over Ready to Die - I would also rate The Infamous over Ready to Die . . because let's face it, Ready to Die is about the same thing with a few singles from Puffy. Outside of those singles, Prodigy's rapping is exceptionally better than Biggie's. If it weren't for Puffy and and Biggie was in a position to release an album on his own accord you would've heard a bunch of "Machine Gun Funk" and "Gimme the Loot" and the highest he could aspire to would be a "Shook Ones" . . face it, although being a classic hip-hop track that doesn't have the crossover appeal that "Big Poppa" does and thus his album wouldn't of sold the way it did with Puffy's vision intract
And in that regard . . .it isn't no Me Against the World :umad:

Whens the last time a rapper of note sampled Pacs voice or one of his lines?

So rappers of note from this era and the last, saying they wish they could touch people with they music like Pac....or rappers from this era and the last reffering to Pac as Jesus....rappers remaking entire Pac songs, and dedication songs don't mean as much as using a line:mjlol:?What about namedropping Pac songs? When was the last time a rapper of note said Biggie inspired they entire career, called Biggie jesus, dedicated an entire song to Biggie, made a song called Biggie back, said Biggie recorded one of the greatest records ever of any genre?Because all the top rappers of note from todays era have said and done these things about Pac.

Rappers don't quote the bible either, dont mean they never read it or don't love god more than Biggie, some things you just don't use in vain if you not gon be serious:sas1:...Quoting Pacs best lines would require these rappers to have to bring some substance to the table to surround the bitten line...much easier to just quote a line about coke or sucking a daddys dikk, well maybe not the line about sucking a daddys dikk:whoa:

It doesn't have the high points that Thug Life: Volume 1 - Illmatic is more "in-pocket" and as a result it's more cohesive.

In comparison Illmatic sounds much more dated than Thug Life: Volume 1

To me every song featuring pac was dope. str8 ballin, how long will they mourn me,bury me a g,shyt dont stop, cradle to the grave, under pressure, pour out a lil liqour and stay true are all good songs.
Niether album is better than RTD though.
(not enough songs to compete is why i'd put it above thuglife)
and even if illmatic had had as many tracks it still wouldnt suffice, not if they were on the same level as illmatic's songs currently are.

in spite of length both are better than Ready to Die

1. "Intro" - best thing about it is the samples 1/5 . . starting the album with arguments and shyt? Who got for that? Fantasies of robbing a train. Okay
2. "Things Done Changed" 8/10
3. "Gimme the Loot" - 10/10 storytelling
4. "Machine Gun Funk" - 6/10 at best . . name a song after funk and include no funk brehs "get in that ass like a wedgie" . . wack gun talk the whole track
5. "Warning" 8/10 - solid track, not as hot as "Gimme the Loot" - have I mentioned all of Biggie's metaphors are wack as fukk? "blowing up like nitro"
6. "Ready to Die" -9/10 . . "off and on like a light switch" . . "dripping out my buttcheeks":scust: . . "sleeping on my stomach so I don't mess up my sheets" :what:- law of attraction, the universe took note of this track . . "Oh you're life is played out like a Jherri curl" . . that can be arranged
7. "One More Chance" - 7/10 . . "Cleanest/meanest/penis" . . you're really impressed by this? Absolute struggle chorus
8. "fukk Me (Interlude)" - fukking is new to this guy, makes something for the album because it's such a big deal . . throwaway 0/10
9. "The What" 10/10 - largely due to production and Method Man, Biggie's lyrics are very generic for the time
10. "Juicy" 10/10
11. "Everyday Struggle" 10/10 . . another repugnant mind-state on display, "I don't wanna live no more" sounding like a typical Tumblr bytch. This is why Jay Z easily surpassed him. You never hearJay talking about that wack ass shyt like "I don't wanna live no more". This shyt is for people with no lives that stay in their rooms all day. Easy Moe Bee here to save the day
12. "Me & My bytch" 9/10 . . "so good I'd suck on your daddy's dikk" why did you think that was okay to put that in a song? Muthaphukka had Mister Cee tryna introduce his daughters to him on the regular
13. "Big Poppa" - 10/10 - thanks to Puff's music direction
14. "Respect" - 9/10 . . how many times is he gonna redo the same track? so many of these tracks have inconsequential lyrics that could literally be exchange with lyrics from any other track . .
15. "Friend of Mine" - 6/10 - same track over again like all the other throwaways on this album
16. "Unbelievable" - 9/10 due to production . . another lyrical bullshyt, same shyt all over again
17. "Suicidal Thoughts" - 0/10 another bullshyt, my life means nothing. Tumblr bytch anthem

Such an overrated album with a few highlights thanks to Puffy's direction. dude's a rapper not a songwriter and definitely not an artist. He had no musical direction of his own

Ya . . the content is akin to Tumblr girls who have low self-esteem and talk about killing themselves and how worthless they are all damn day

4. I absolutely love machine gun funk. I love biggies performance and the samples around the hook. shyt is fire.
As far as calling the songs repetitive, illmatc's more repetitive than RTD by far. What does FRIEND OF MINE sound like?
I dont know how old you are ,but you're comparing an album i was bumping at 15 in 94' to tumblr, wtf
Picking out a bar or two you dont like doenst = wack song
