lol @ this dude trying to tell me what I didn't see & hear on a regular everyday basis.

and who said I didn't like GRODT? I just said it wasn't a classic. it was still imo, one of the top 5-10 LPs for that year.

theres no artist in the history of music that can lay claim to the bolded. theres no such thing as an artist that every single person liked. lol. youre too much into trend-hoppin. now I know why bul called you vanilla ice that day.

you gotta remember that was the most lyrical era for reckless rap. and here comes 50 cent making all the money with his baby bars. common sense should tell you that there were lots of people that didn't like him, whether the hate was warranted or not. lol. I remember a lot of people that f*cked with Lloyd banks heavy but hated the rest of g-unit. same with the other squads. there were people that didn't like diplomats but still kept tabs on one or two of the members more than the actual dipset fans did.
Lmao at people fukking with Banks more than 50. Delusional

how is this so unfathomable to you?

2 different types of rappers, and youre shocked that theres people that favored banks over 50? especially with the timeframe being right in the middle of punchline rap's peak?

BE SMART SON.

Because banks only worth was being an accessory to the 50 cent show.

Only people I know who didn't fukk with that album at the time were back pack rappers who were fukking with Def Jux and shyt. They also didn't fukk with Jay or anyone who was actually popping regardless of the music so their opinions can :camby:.

But it's just revisionist bullshyt. I vividly remember what the album meant when it dropped and revisionist shyt in this thread means nothing

An album being "deemed" classic the moment it drops has never validated a classic album, just fyi. Cats usually
get repped up with the hype, the timing & all. You have to wait some years and see if its still a classic. Even in 2005-06 GRODT
wasnt bumped like it was in 2003. I myself didnt bump it and i dont remember hearing it ever after it dropped. But i know i've heard other albums.

And just in general, people so easily confuse QUALITY with POPULARITY/BUSINESS. You notice that, even on so called hip-hop forums.

yea, people forget that the media was drilling this album into our psyche as if it was a goat album contender, before it even dropped. and lets not act like all the other outside factors revolving around the 50 cent hype didn't get the movement moving before the album even came out.

whats funny is, most of these people will say it themselves that 50 lives off of hype & controversy. but that nostalgia is keeping them from realizing that 50 was doing this the entire time, including GRODT and even the stuff when he was signed to JMJ.

and on top of that, it didn't have that feel & reception that the classics got when they dropped. there were too many detractors. you didn't have as many detractors when say DMX & snoop dogg released their debuts. I used those as examples cuz they are pretty much the 2 main albums compared to GRODT in terms of hype.

I agree 100%. As far as marketing tho 50 gotta have been the rapper with the biggest machine behind him (if not Eminem). Even tho Snoop, X, 2pac etc also had it they obviously came out in a different era. 50 Cent was managed by Lighty & had Universal/Interscope behind him 100% and was marketed a Eminem & Dr Dre artist. Geez..and this is the time where Eminem was still one of the most popular rappers in the game with Jimmy on his dikk (and still is..). Then the story 50 had.

I remember sayin around 2004-05, when 50 started to get full of himself and dismiss cats who werent selling as much records, that it was gonna bite him in the ass. Cuz we know what goes up, definitely comes down. 1-2 years later i was right.

Get rich or die trying dominated the year it came out. I dont need you to explain the difference between popularity and quality. People really fukked with the album and even enemies of 50 have called it classic. revisionist coli nerds won't change history. nikkas hating on 50 later on doesnt negate grodt's performance with the people.
What people really confuse is opinion vs facts.
I think grodt is dope, some might think it's not. OPINION
But it's a fact that 50 ran 2003 with that album
It's a fact that the album possesses singles and album cuts that everyone was bumping and loving.
It's a fact that it broke records.

Who said what about the album being a GOAT contender before it dropped?

And none of this dispels grodt's classic status
