I've had diabetes since I was 12. My Mom was diagnosed with Type 1 as a child, and so was I.
Diabetes Type 1 is one of those diseases that can be controlled pretty easily with proper insulin treatment, healthy eating and staying active. My doctor explained to me at a very young age that if you kept taking your insulin, your body would not know it was diabetic because it was given the insulin necessary to function. Without taking the insulin, that's how you end up with legs/toes being amputated. I've been giving myself 2 shots a day for most of my life, that's the only inconvenient part for me, otherwise I feel great.

Since the age of 10 for me. No one on either side of my family has diabeetus. I was the lucky one. It is what it is though. Eat right, work out and take care of yourself... pretty basic routine. I feel like its almost helped me maintain a healthier lifestyle. At least thats what I tell myself.![]()
You use pens? Have you ever been severely hypo?
No pens. Old school syringes and Humulin insulin. Its worked for me thus far. Get my blood work done every 6 months and my doc says I'm kosher.
