(Long post)

Clearly some of the cats in here have to be under 20 years old.

Let me break this down. I love them both. But 6 is the pinnacle.

Remember cats gotta learn to take shyt like graphics, sound quality and all that into context..(especially nikkas like the OP who are playing the shyt in iOS for christ sake :snoop:)

As many said the nostalgia train for 7 is much more potent than any other game prolly of all time. But what the biggest problem for 7 was is that it was WAY TOO EASY. With the proper materia there is NO boss or segment in the game that is hard.

Another strike against it is the fact that cloud doesn't get interesting until disc 3, he was the one of the progenitors of that "moody emo" protagonist wave that was RPGs in the late 90's early 2000's.

And finally what should make 7 lose points is the fact that the game holds your hand with everything. Sans optional quests, the overworld map is nearly useless and EVERYONE knew of all the quests and only ONE was even interesting (the Wutai quest). The writing was absolutely terrible in some aspects and some people jut didn't react to stuff realistically. Cloud completely ignores the fact that Tifa been on him since they were kids, Tifa totally ignores and never talks about Nibelhiem except for once, zombie girl never mentions "oh you act just like my ex who's sword you also happen to be carrying and who I know was killed only a few days before you arrived here in Midgar." Its really silly at some points. And people want to talk pointless. Cait Sith is pointless, Yuffie is damn near pointless. If it wasn't for Cosmo Canyon Red XIII is pointless...leaving only Cloud, Tifa, Vincent, and Cid with even likeable and complete story arcs. Lets not even get into the fact that AVALANCE are basically terrorists. :beli:

6 was a masterpiece. Its writing and story telling were much better or the simple fact that its cast was much more likeable. Yeah, Strago, Relm, Gogo and Mog were pointless...but half of them are totally optional to even go get. And the ones who ARE mandatory are interesting. Locke (who to me is the "real" protagonist as we see the game through his eyes more often that even Terra). isn't just a one dimensional ruffian he has a past that can be revisited or analyzed in game. Same with Cyan, Celes and Shadow and the Figaro brothers. FF7 has you with basically people from similar walks of life...former fighters/veterans or outcasts from the mainstream. In FF6 you have a rich gambler, a grave robber, a human/esper, a human experiment, a king of a country, his brother who didn't want the throne, a mercenary (who had a outside kid), an artist, a knight who loses his family and more.

The cast is more interesting....period.

6 also changed the game in the fact that you could still theory craft aspects of the story. Good writing and story telling makes you think WELL beyond the texts of the medium. The Shadow/Relm thing was a good example of giving the game just enough information to run with and still making you think about its validity. Another example of how the world of FF6 is much more dynamic and realistic than FF7's ever was. It also let tragedy touch the entire cast..some only lost a little...some lost everything...but everyone experienced some kind of pain on the journey...not just in their introductory quests (besides Cyan).

Lastly, I wasn't afraid to be the Empire Strikes Back of RPGs, 6 is loved for the same reason that a game like Suikoden 3 is loved. Sometimes...the bad guys win and there isn't shyt you can do. Sure losing a party member is tough and it was new at the time...but watching the entire world burn because you just didnt account for Kefka was fukking nuts. But it was compelling too.

Kefka killed a bunch of people for no damn reason.

He's a pyscho, duh :ld:. He don't need a reason to kill. When he feels like it, he will slit yo mama's throat. It's really mentioned that magic experiment really fukked up his head. So you want backstory for him? There you have it.

mean while Sepiroth..

As far as Celes becoming the main character for the second half, I NEVER used that bytch. I must've missed how that was set up. How she was automatically heroine is beyond me and was random enough for me to stop caring.
You're probably a scrub that can't use Celes properly. :umad:

Her runic is very useful against nikkas who cast powerful spells. Everytime a nikka cast Ultima or any powerful spell, I just went :ahh:when Celes ethers them with runic.

FFVII had the GOAT music tho, gotta admit that.
That was a rhetorical question. Games of the same series usually always "rip" off each other.

And to the dude who said cait with was useless. He's the reason why you were able to escape from the temple of the ancients. And he was a spy from midgar, major role in the game. Yuffie has no major role, thats why Shes an optional character. You nikkas really do not know wtf you are talking about. Just blabbering about stupid shyt to make your favorite game seem better.

Reeve is a spy...a Turk even. CAIT SITH is pointless. Just give me Reeve and make him a current/reformed Turk (not a monster dude like vincent). Really a remote controlled cat/mog? :beli:

Bruh. Everything that you named was a plot device of some sort. Not to mention, you're reaching harder than ray allen guarding lebron.
Last time I watched Advent Children, motorcycle riding was somewhat relevant to the story.
Having a choice of women added more layers.
Vampire? We're really going there?:comeon:
Go ahead and act like Barret wasn't that neguh. Still enhanced the plot. Only thing I'll give you is the snowboarding. It got me to a destination tho.
Tell me how suplexing a train moves the game forward.... Kefka killed a bunch of people for no damn reason.

Try harder

You're a FFVII die hard. If you think that movie was entertaining I feel sorry for your mother.

Vampires vs Snowman. You can let your skin sparkle if you want breh.

Suplexing a train is just a funny thing you can do. Kefka killed everyone because he wanted to watch the world burn it's not hard to understand.

FFVII was a step down as a game and a step up in marketing and production.

You talk about plot devices and ask why Celes is the starting point of the 2nd world? Get the fukk outta here with your half brained English class rhetoric.

I concur with you. That's why I said Chrono Trigger is the only Rpg to match the GOAT FF7.

I love FF7, despite this new trend to call it overrated (growing up, everyone said FF7 was their favorite), I actually think I enjoyed FF9 more overall than FF7, but FF7 is definitely #2 right behind FF9.

It's hard to say, but it's certainly possible I would put Chrono Trigger over FF9 for me.

9 was criminally underrated when it came out. The new crowd didn't like that it didn't push the FFVII edge that it had built and was a throwback to the pre-PS1 FF games. It's my favorite behind 6.
