Vivi one of the best ff characters ever9 was criminally underrated when it came out. The new crowd didn't like that it didn't push the FFVII edge that it had built and was a throwback to the pre-PS1 FF games. It's my favorite behind 6.

People always knock FF7 by saying it was all nostalgia and the marketing that made people love the game. I honestly feel that the same could be said about FFVI which didn't get as much notoriety as VII but had gotten a lot notoriety nonetheless and was probably the most acclaimed rpg of its time and I'm sure for a lot of people it was their first rpg as well. I don't see how anyone can still say today that VI's storyline holds up with some the storylines we have today. The level of sophistication and detail in stories today completely blows VI out of the water.
People love the fact that all the characters get an equal time to share there story but the lack of character focus really just gives you a bunch of simple small stories that lack depth. I mean Barret's story of how he allowed shira to come in and destroy his town and the guilt he has for that which fueled his hate for shinra is a much better story than most of the collection of side stories all throughout VI. Red XIII finding out that his father had been a hero the whole time when he grew thinking he was a coward is better than most of the stories in VI. VII has the lifestream which takes on the role of how we see oil today and blends it beautifully themes from quantam physics, metaphysics, and themes regarding the circle of life.
Sephiroth's plot of absorbing the energy of the lifeforce to become one with the planet was a far better writing than kefka's whole "ok i'm a stay in my tower and randomly drop lightning bolts on people every now and then". People call Cloud emo but the whole VI class was emo in the second half of the game (not saying they didn't have a right to be,) Hell I thought FFIV had a more sophisticated sttory than VI. VI did things we hadn't seen before like (having the bad guy actually take over tthe world and seeing how pepole deal with that) but compare it with today's games and its extremely flat.

VI have similar events where Leo and the Returners planned a peace negotiations, only for Kekfka to fukk it up and burn the whole village in the process.![]()
), Edgar had his tools, Gogo could mimic anyone's commands, and so on. Gau in particular was the GOAT if you trained him properly. If you got the right rages you could easily have him doing 4x damage and blasting with -ara spells before you got to the Narshe battle (where most of your characters still have NO magic at all)
, but aside from that everyone feels way too similar gameplay-wise.
, but Kefka poisoning entire kingdoms, earthing all of the Espers, and DESTROYING THE WHOLE WORLD took it to a whole new level of
Dude actually succeeds at everything and becomes a god

today outside of battles
Chocobo racing is also
once you start breeding some good chocobos, especially the gold one. I can't think of any minigames on this level from FFVI.

overallFf7, ff8, x and 13 didn't have the medieval elements. That's why I liked them.FF7 is the goat cause of the adult/realistic setting.
Non of that fantastical shyt. The story was and still is relatable to real life.
Materia system was awesome.
A couple of the twists in the story were phenomenal and totaly unexpected.
