Black men perpetuate the stereotype, as do black women and western media. Lighter skin is viewed more favorably by many people.

Most Whites by and large don't see Blacks as attractive. Especially Black women. They control the media NOT BLACK MEN.

I've seen black men fall over themselves to crown the most homely, unimpressive light skin chicks simply due to color. I've seen darker girls get laughed at for being dark, and you can just see their heart harden as they get clowned. shyt is sad and it perpetuates self hate.

I seen Black women to the same to Black men. I've Black girls clown dark skinned boys Black women clown Africans, Jamaicans and Haitians for being dark skinned. Dislike for dark skin for the most part is systemic.

I'm thankful I was raised by someone who grew up during the 60s when this color bullshyt wasn't particularly relevant.

You sound a little delusional. Colorism has always been an issue among Black people in America and in Africa and the Caribbean as well.

More honest discussion needs to be made on the topic on how much it destroys the self esteem of young black girls. But black people's way to cope with suffering is to mock it to pretend that it doesn't hurt.
Black men perpetuate the stereotype, as do black women and western media. Lighter skin is viewed more favorably by many people. We're seeing an impressive surge of black women getting good roles on television lately, but most of them are light skinned. You have some like Viola Davis that buck the trend obviously, but overall the roles are dominated by lighter women.

I've seen black men fall over themselves to crown the most homely, unimpressive light skin chicks simply due to color. I've seen darker girls get laughed at for being dark, and you can just see their heart harden as they get clowned. shyt is sad and it perpetuates self hate.

I'm thankful I was raised by someone who grew up during the 60s when this color bullshyt wasn't particularly relevant. If you were black, you were a ****** to the white man. That's how it was, and unless you could completely pass as white you weren't caught up in who was light and who was dark. Today we're freer than we were in the 60s yet the mental chains are worse IMO, and this color nonsense is one of the areas where we're worse off.

I love women, period, regardless of color. And in terms of black women I've seen beautiful light skinned women. I've seen beautiful dark women.

Stop excusing the behaviour of blacks. Leave it up to blacks and colorism would still play into it.

Man I'm tired of this new age bullshyt where everybody has to make you feel better about yourself. Make yourself feel better. Some people going to like you some aren't regardless of who, what you are. Better learn to cope cause asking other for sympathy hokes on you and anybody else looking/asking for it.

This show is interesting didn't know soo many black cats were on that stupid shyt. I saw a part awhile ago and was like these dudes don't rep me at all. Where they found these cats at

Not all black people are on it like that. "Some", "A lot", "Many" might fall prey to that but I just think it's a byproduct of having a weak mind, wanting to be accepted/peer pressure, and letting the media tell you what's sexy/not sexy. Colorism exists all over the globe, it's not just us. We've been victimized and been victimizers as well. But I really think this colorism is something that younger blacks really get into. It's in the older generations of black folk and it seems to be running rampant amongst the younger black kids also. I guess I was just lucky enough to grow seeing black women in the mainstream media for better or worse. Looking back I saw more representation of black women from yellow to dark black and all shades in between. It's a drought for a long time. My personal hypothesis about why it exploded was black women removing themselves from rap videos. I never grew up with dudes talking like that. Maybe them taking themselves out of those images actually caused damage as well. You saw black men with money, cars, status and had black women as well. The moment they were replaced with whites, asians, hispanics I think younger blacks took notice and ran with it.

Ain't no heterosexual black man gonna tell me he'd choose an ugly light skinned woman before a pretty dark skinned woman. That shyt just sound dumb. Maybe I'm just older but every brotha I was around was :shaq: when Taral Hicks came out in that Belly scene oiled up.......:banderas:

Actually white men do find black women attractive according to a variety of polls. But it's usually specified to light skin women. Halle Berry for instance.

In terms of colorism I think you're misquoting me. In the US colorism was less of a problem during Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Era. If you couldn't pass you were fukked regardless. Obviously other countries weren't the same. I'd argue colorism in the US has been worse over the last couple decades.

Ultimately the biggest victim of colorism is dark girls, that's just a fact. Dark guys may get clowned by some people but overall have far less of an issue with dating. The majority of men who were viewed as "attractive" are darker or "brown." Michael Jordan comes to mind. And today there's Idris Elba. There really isn't a similar amount of dark black women gaining acclaim or being viewed as beautiful. There's Lupita and that's about it.
