There's no way u 30 and Wayne's run was in ur 8th grade year unless u got left back a bunch of times. Wayne had 2 bouts of popularity. His initial Cash Money/Hot Boyz run but both Juvie and B.G were more popular at that point. And he started bubbling up in about 04 and the Carter 1. But he ain't start getting really popular again until Carter 2. 06-07 is when Wayne really gained his popularity. 08-09 is basically when it peaked.
Same thing I’m saying. I was born in 88. 01-02 Wayne was just around. 04-05 is when he became really popular and from that point forward he was all over the damn place. Every other song/remix he was on, was all over the damn radio and bet.

Must be your area cause Wayne was nowhere near the most talked about rapper in 2003:russ: 04 and 05 he gained steamed. 2006 and on is when you couldn’t turn on the damn radio without hearing him

Seems like our opinions differ cuz you're talking about radio and popularity. Where i grew up skill was more dominant.

Around this time we listened to mixtapes religiously and argued whether j-hood or Cassidy was better.

Nothing wrong with your truth tho breh.

But this was kind of my point in the beginning before it became about popularity. The dude I first quoted said you have to be under 30 to not know Wayne used to be nice. That’s a stretch, many people old enough to remember Wayne’s whole career never thought that.

Sqad 4 came out in 02 and was my personal favorite mixtape. I been a wayne fan since hot boys tho.

I was talking more of the skills jump
To be fair I’m 29 and Wayne was never all that to be either. In his prime was cool and dropped better than content. however, that “the best rapper alive” shyt he was on turned off a lot of people in the late 2000s

He started the best rapper Alive shyt in 03 when Jay-Z "retired".

My whole posting is based off sqad mixtapes in 01-03 leading up to the drought and prefix BEFORE tha Carter.

He gave me 10 mixtapes before the album that put the mainstream on.

Im talking about his skill, not his popularity. And if your a year older than me than you must of been born in 87, which means you were a freshmen in 2001. Where did you lived that Wayne was the most talked about rapper in 2001? He was somewhat popular but his “run” truly took off in the mid 2000s.

And i never care about popularity when it comes to rap skill so i thought we were talkin bout content.

You did quote me while I was in the middle of talking about skill, and it took a turn to populairity

This is the dude I quoted

how old are you?

no way you're 25 or older saying this shyt cause the Wayne I grew up on was nice as fukk....even sqad wayne shyts on anything close that he has made over the past 5-6 years

My response to him

The conversation was pretty much being old enough to remember when this nikka actually had decent content

Your reply

Lol what?

I'm a year older than you and Wayne's run started around 8th grade/ freshman year of being the most talked about rapper for the remainder of my school years

You didn’t mention skill. You just mentioned his popularity. Considering your age, I assume you meant Wayne was the most talked about rapper in 01-02 and that’s where this conversation sort of shifted into when did Wayne take off. Misunderstanding

Used to rap biznite word for word walking to elementary school. The skill always been there. Agree to disagree

Edit: useless to continue arguing semantics. We only disagree by a year. D6 and d6 reloaded were dope. Wish nothing but the best for future Wayne releases

My g I'm from NYC and nikkas was def not goin hard over Wayne until Carter 1. And it still took him to start riding Dipset's coattails for everybody to jump on board. Matter fact. Carter 1 was his lyrical peak and he ain't REALLY start poppin till after. People ain't really start putting him in conversations till after he regressed from Carter 1.

Sounds like you saying Wayne's skill peaked before his popularity did.

Which was in your words 2004.

There's nothing wrong with the fact that you missed the mixtape run in 03. Maybe NYC was different but i distinctly remember mixtapes being bigger than albums in that time (G-unit, dipset, d-block, etc...)

It's all based on opinion, no hard feelings. You got hip to Wayne during his "down trend" but there were people who watched the whole run building up to that.

No, I never listened to Wayne like that except on occasion because he was overrated. Even when he dropped the drought/dedication mixtapes I wasn’t into him. When he dropped all those squad up mixtapes in 2002 and to like 03, I was never really into him. A lot of people weren’t. It really is just my opinion but that was my point

The first nikka I quoted acted like you had to be a certain age to really like him, I’m of that very age and never liked Wayne like that.

ETA: oh you talking to the other nikka, my bad:russ:

i had to order the 1st drought mixtape from Canada:heh:..

Bird and Slim surrounded him with gillie and mikkey who helped him tremendously...

I couldn't wait for the Carter 1:ohlawd:
