So whoever has the most platinum plaques constitutes being the GOAT? :martin: Cornball dikkridin' fakkits.
It's not automatic obviously, but putting opinion aside, how can you not say there's something to an artist that can get at least a million people to buy an album 10+ times? At some point you have to admit that it's not a fluke, and it's not some weird Vanilla/Hammer thing, it has to be talent.

Overrated doesn't mean Undervalued

That's doesn't hide the fact that licensed to ill was one of the best and Influential hip hop albums of all time.

So is Paul's Boutique, Check YOur Head & Ill Communication.

:pachaha:These young nikkaz don't even know that Beasties are more respected by the ORIGINAL Hip-Hop heads than all the fakkit ass trap rappers y'all listen to.

Ask Run DMC, Public Enemy, and them if the Beasties are real. Hip-Hop.

In terms of Hip-Hop credibility Beasties>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The Lox

No Big Daddy Kane...............:dwillhuh:

No MC Shan.............:dwillhuh:

No Biz Markie..................:dwillhuh:

No Audio Two............:dwillhuh:

No MC Lyte............:dwillhuh:

No Queen Latifah................:dwillhuh:

No Kool G. Rap.............:dwillhuh:

No Boogie Down Productions..................:dwillhuh:

No Special Ed...................:dwillhuh:

My teen years were all an illusion?.......................:mindblown:

Hip-Hop was an underground phenomenon mostly until Hammer and Vanilla Ice busted it out around '90-'91. By that time a lot of the original old school artists were past their prime selling years, like Kane, Latifah, Lyte, etc. . .and gangsta rap was taking over.

What really happened was Soundscan only started tracking sales in '91, which also means that a lot of old school rap albums and albums period aren't accurately counted because they came out before that.

So, basically the people who came around post-Hammer/Vanilla Ice and pre internet are basically the ones who benefited the most from the way we count record sales.

Also, MTV, was at it's peak influence in selling Hip-Hop.

AND , the economy was at it's all-time best in the '90s, so teens had more money to spend on records

AND the internet hadn't taken over yet.

:pachaha:So, basically the rappers from about '91-2005 or so had the whole system working in their favor, which is why the overwhelming majority of these plats are gonna be from that era.
How did Everlast go platinum?:stopitslime:

He made a rock record that was basically EVERYWHERE (if you're into rock) back in 1999, but is counted as a rapper because he was in House of Pain

That's this hoe ass skinny jeans wearing mentality

Or somebody just hopped on whatever fads were poppin' and had enough corporate influence to make sure they sold.:manny:

80% of those rappers on that list would struggle to reach gold let alone 250,000 nowadays

Any rappers or singer's that was able to earn gold albums post 2005 especially if they first hit that scene around that time and did it consecutively are mega stars and basically platinum artist imo

It's safe to say no one will be taking this crown from Jay. Em is the only one with a shot but I just don't see him dropping albums well into his 50's.

I'm most suprised at the Luniz. I would not have expected them to go plat.

8Ball's lost was a triple ablum, so it only had to sell 333,334 copies.

It's amazing to see rappers that weren't even truly mainstream go plat. Some of these artists today might sell 150-200K.

50 cent only had 2? I know Curtis was way less popular than GRODT and The Massacre, but I thought it still went platinum
