you can have your lazy and outdated critiques, I am sitting here at my desk while working listening to two great LITTLE BROTHER songs and I hope to see them when they go on tour again after the last run sold out because fans wanted to see LITTLE BROTHER live on stage.
Glad you’re enjoying this Phonte and Big Pooh record ….but it ain’t Little Brother :yeshrug:

:whoa::whoa: At the Murs/9th collabo slander. They had one of the greatest stretches for 3 project in music history

I just had 3:16 on the other day.

That was peak Murs and 9th. They were selling out in every damn store in NYC. I had to go to Tower Records to find it, and ended up getting one of the last copies. That's back when 9th had the underground in a chokehold. His run kinda ended a year later, for me.

It’s been hella 9th wonder sound kits out there over the years so it’s plausible, but when it come it’s percussion, nobody can really pinpoint where a damn snare or kick came from by ear lol. shyt may sound crisp, flat, fat, etc… but it’s damn near infinite snare, kick, hat sounds out there for people to be able to pinpoint exactly what sound was used.
:manny: I been in the studio with a lot of producers that can definitely identify drum sounds. I mean it's not that serious. I wasn't complaining about Hit-Boy. I think it's dope.

You can definitely take drum sounds and pitch shift them and alter them a little bit. I remember at one point Khrysis was using the same snare and just pitch shifting it to give it a different feel on different beats.

They can still get really dope production without 9th. That's clear.

But with 9th, they'd get more love for the group, just from a marketing standpoint. If he got back with the group, they'd have way more ears instantly. True LB fans want a return to The Listening, and even though that'll never happen, dude reuniting with them would get them more shine and visibility. 9th was also the one who led with the vision and direction of the group, with Te helping. That's what's missing for them today.

And 9th isn't as dope as he was 20+ years ago, but his absence is still felt on these tracks, even with the beats still being dope. He brought a lot more to the table than just the production. Chemistry is huge for groups. They've lost a step with that, with dude not around.

I was around for The Minstrel Show. Used to sit in a lot of sessions with LB and Kaze at the time. 9th would literally pass around album concepts and ideas on a legal pad and ask people what they thought about them. Each idea would have a beat attached that he would pull up to go with the suggestion. That dude was very much focused on the messaging of where the group was going back then. He led them. There was never any question about that. I don’t even like him, lol. But I have to give him credit for what he was doing back then.

I was just playing it the other day too - still a great listen that you can play from start to finish straight.

I think 9th, Murs and Doom were the biggest artists on the underground scene at that time.

Murs was legit headlining 20k audiences (Paid Dues tour) and was one of the first backpack artists I remember really securing a deal on a major label (Murs for President).

He never really was the same artist after he got that major label money but really doesn’t get enough credit for his impact on backpack rap

Truth.

Most producers who have the ear can definitely ID certain snares and kicks. And like you said, Khrysis was definitely lifting a lot of 9th's drums. His whole kit on Pooh's Sleepers album was all 9th's sh*t. He was giving this dude discs of drums at the time.

That's a great point! Those three definitely had the underground on lock around that time.

I think Murs is dope, but he never really got the love or respect he deserved. His catalogue was always mad consistent. A lot of high quality music in there.

No doubt. And 9th has started using a lot of this synth that Khrysis was using heavy a while in the mid 2010's. Producers share stuff all the time.
