LB & Justus League
I remember the first time hearing the beat from Morning kick in on the The Listening, it literally felt like a breath of fresh air
LB as a group are my favourite group of all time and Phonte is one of my favourite rappers of all time but I have to co-sign with everybody saying Pooh was criminally slept on. His verse on Hiding Place is arguably the most standout verse (besides Elzhi's) on the entire album.
If it wasn't for LB, I would have never been introduced to Median and IMO, he's one of the best rappers I've ever heard. Path to Relief, Median's Relief (classic) and The Sender are quality albums.
I was there. My wife (gf at the time) still talks about how that was one of the most fun concerts we've been to. When Elzhi came out for Hiding Place it was a wrap. I remember Phonte laughed asking how everybody already knew the words when the album wasn't coming out for another week. nikka already knew the deal.
Had to dap you up +rep for hooking me up way back in thedays. You probably don't remember, but you basically hooked me up with about 2 cd's of Justus League shyt I hadn't heard yet back then. After the shyt you sent me, nobody couldn't tell me that that nikka J Gunn ain't have next. The sad thing is I have no idea where any of those tracks are now. But good looks from way back.
I heard little brother on the radio once, and i was in north carolina of course
It's ironic how after The Minstrel Show is when things seem to fall apart for LB![]()
Gotta hate the music biz. Love 3 of their albums. Radio stations here didn't even play them but yet we heard Petey Pablo like that is a realistic depiction of NC. Never understood why the home state didn't even put them on. The average nikka I talk to here don't even know who they are.

It's a common thing with groups. Somebody is always going to get more acclaim than the others and it near enough always creates tension. Plus it was clear that they all had their own lanes as well. 9th had all the collaborations that were coming his way as a result of producing Threats, Phonte had +FE and Pooh had Reservoir Dogs with Scudda and Chaundon.
In hindsight, the only way they would have stayed together is if they did what ?uestlove said he told them to do and take a genuine break in between albums. Especially after Alantic/BET pretty much sandbagged Minstrel Show.
Anyone got the full story on that?
All I heared was BET thought Lovin' It was too metaphoric and ppl wouldn't get it
And something about The Source wanting to give The Minstrel Show 5 mics (or 4.5, I forgot)
EDIT: @White Mike
I actually find that surprising. LB always got way more push outside of NC and got attention and praise elsewhere and then NC showed a little bit of love to some extent after they already were going into Minstrel Show. But the love from NC was still few and far between and there certainly wasn't any real love from local radio (besides college radio and maybe a DJ at K 97.5) in The Listening days.
