I wish Banks would go back to his G-Unit mixtape days with the rapping, :hubie:

I respect that yall like this new Banks...but to me the shyt he be saying is like 75% borderline gibberish...not gibberish but immaterial...pointless bars that are only there to fit a rhyming pattern. Too much focus on rhyme patterning...not enough focus on what's actually being said.

Stans don't come at me bro, lol, I mean no disrespect, it's still Big Queens all day...just my opinion. Listen to that last Flex freestyle...lol, that shyt was mostly just non-sequitur mumbo jumbo that sounded good because of the rhyme patterns,. Flex aint know wtf that man was talking about 90% of the verse...and neither did you.
I think I'm a good person to give input on this, because I'm not a Banks stan and don't have verses memorized from his 2010's mixtapes, but a couple times a year I get into the mood to bump them (especially FNO) and give them a spin.

I think the reality is in the middle. He's definitely got a heavier focus on rhyme patterns and cadences, but it's not total non-sequitars and gibberish either. Because I like a lot of non-sequitar bars, and I'd have taken notice if I thought that's what Banks was doing. I think there's definitely some coded stuff on there, and his content kind of builds on itself, so a lot of bars are easier to catch on repeated listens, or after hearing previous songs from previous tapes. But sometimes I do lose what he's saying too, and I think it's not always as deep as some Banks stans say it is.
:manny:

He's not DOOM, Ka, or Mach levels of density and coded lyrics, but he's also not just rhyming to rhyme words about nothing like Eminem either.

I think the truth is probably in between what you think and what Banks stans think.

Everything resonates with me...This his last single from his last project

If what banks be saying doesnt resonate with you - you not having the experiences that Banks has or has had where he pulls his lyrics from...Just like a blond 19yr old girl signing doesnt resonate with me...Its all in your opinion...But I relate to this:

" I lost my partner to crime, whish I can go get you kcik it with you one last time snap a dope picture shyt doesnt make no sense hoping I crack the code quicker...The only role models on our side the fould kind they teach you all about crime lucky if he get out fine most of my friends were outlined or outlaws why would we care about yours?"

"YOu dont got me in your best interest its screaming out your eyes ... whole material I suppled jeopardize my kids meal send them all on a doctor ride we represent the minority lets monopolize...everybody for self nobody chopping pies...God bless the child who hold his own and keep his folk straight Grimey in a cold state thats how it gotta be dominating finally ima make you proud of me"

Who else im gonna relate to? Drake talking about doing numbers on crutches or Lil baby talking about new found fame money???? or maybe Lil uzi talking about fairies

Ive had some success more failures and delt with shady people and have held my own...so i relate

Are you insinuating that Banks was trash during the G-Unit mixtape run? And are you also saying that his metaphors are just too complex and I may be missing them due to the complexity? Lol, salute...I vehemently disagree with both.

Lupe Fiasco, Daylyt and Los are in my top 5...just to establish my wordplay/metaphor/complexity susceptibility. It's not a "complexity" issue with Banks... it's a filler issue...bars be full of filler that rhymes well structurally. If Banks does this stage battle...trust me...it will stand out clearly when you hear the crickets, lol.

But salute to you...I'm not trying to sway nobody away from him, I just personally ain't into the "rhyming well but not saying shyt" thing. And I wasnt really into his punchlines back then...like you highlighted, they were never really complex or that good, he just did it a lot...when I say I miss that Banks I moreso mean voice/pace wise. His flow is much better now, I'll give you that...I think he may be over focusing on flow tho and not the actual lyrics

I agree. With all those mixtapes it felt to me like it was just rapping to be rapping, without clear musical direction. Not enough focus on other aspects other than flow and bars (voice, concepten, album structure).
Never really hit like 02-06 for me.

lol just say u cant keep up with his flow and go.. the messages in his music are very clear if you understand the context and using throwaway radio freestyles as an example doesnt work here

the only aspect of banks from back in the day that is better than banks now is his voice projection and flow.. nikkas not tryna hear "like" and hashtag bars all over the track in 2021 thats why nicki minaj/fabolous get clowned
