A few Floors Down from the Daily Grind
crazy story, as much as I love football, if I have sons they won't be playing it. Call it reactionary or whatever you want. I can think back to a time when I was 12-13 years old playing, had a head on collision with a LB and just saw a white flash after point of contact. Talked to dude after practice and he told me the same thing, neither of us knew what happened on the play, just went back to the huddle and lined up for the next snap. And this is before our bodies developed, imagine being 200+ pounds, doing that week after week. That's some scary stuff to think about in hindsight
No doubt. I remember in Junior High I got a stinger from a tackle, made my arms going completely numb for like 30 seconds and made me puke on the sideline a few minutes later.

No f'in thanks.

In my town, their is a flag football league for youths that has started getting popular and I would let me sons play that where they could still get the fun and athletics of the game without the contact.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
I done said for years I don't let my kids play unless they want to . My 9 year old was at practice months back and I pulled him off the field because he doesn't have the focus to play and would end up being a punching bag because of it. I'm KNOWN for saying i prefer my kids don't play.

As more info about brain trauma comes out, more and more people will take this stance.

I got the soccer ball, baseball glove and basketball ready for mine, only sports he sees on TV are basketball and soccer, the NFL doesn't exist in this home :blessed:

I make sure he's sleeping when I watch Boxing :whoa:

high school football has the highest participation of all high school sports.

It's actually grown in terms of actual school participation from 15 years ago. Will be interesting to see if there's a drastic participation dropoff next year.

Pop warner participation is on the decline, as is HS participation.

That's because it has the least amount of cuts and largest rosters..

Basketball teams holds around 12 letterman.. A varsity football squad holds around 50...

I realize that...but that's good for the sport. It's unique in that sense....from a cardiovascular standpoint- it puts a teenager in the best shape of his life.

If youre at a big high school you have to be in the top 2% of your class to make the basketball team.

There are much better ways to get cardio work if you're a high school student

Cross country or track for one.. But lets be honest.. Being on the football team is cool.. Even if you don't play a lot.. Wearing the jersey the Friday at school before the game and having cheerleaders and teachers fawn all over you is alluring..

Pop Warners decline is overrated. There are so many off shoot leagues now.

Football cardio is more stop and go.. I remember in 11th grade our HS football team won the state championship so all the 2 sports stars were late coming out for basketball.. We had about of month of conditioning ahead of them and dudes just a few days removed from a state championship were throwing up during their first week of hoops practice..

These were Div 1 athletes that went on to play in the Pac 10 and Big 12...Dudes were like "fukk this sh1t"
