Everywhere...You never there.
When it first came out I thought it was an excellent reply especially for an 'old head'

In hindsight he really did get em.

I got into an argument about this around Christmastime. I was tellin' niccas the same thing.

Canibus killed him as far as... technical skill

I'll give you that...And I think that's where folks get confused saying the LL got beat.

But Bis was battling an icon. Not only did he need a sharp, technical delivery, content and lyricism. He also needed to have the presentation and performance of his lifetime, and missed the boat on the performance and presentation part.

The degree of difficulty for his routine was through the roof, and he needed a perfect score. But he lost points because his delivery was lacking.

:salute: Bis for putting his career on the line and dropping some Ether-like material.

:salute: LL for not dodging that battle, although it coulda been avoided if he wasn't acting funny style.

One of the best battles in hip-hop history.

LL sonned bis on 4321...bis came back strong on 2nd rd KO...but cool j hit harder on ripper strike back.

And he sonned bis on the phone too.

Only reason why ll 'sonned' bis on 4321 is because he changed his verse after he heard canibus's verse. It funny that the whole beef started with bis saying he wanted to borrow the mic tattood on ll's arm. Or at least that's how I understood it.

bis had the better song and back then i thought he won the battle. what made LL the winner is how prophetic his lines ended up being which today makes his song more powerful.

This was obviously before 2nd round ko and ripper strikes back :ld:

LL told canibus to not fold under pressure and he did :snoop:
even if the public wouldn't have known, Red and Meth would have always known the 4321 verse was about canibus.

2nd Round K.O. is the better track but the momentum that LL had at the time with that album coming out was too much...plus LL was already battle tested so he didnt look too worried about the whole thing...and he managed to make Canibus look like a stan so that was that :snoop:

2nd rd KO has more qoutables :salute:

Agreed, I wish we had more battles in Hip Hop like this, battle was :gladbron: :blessed: for us Hip Hop heads

Can's "99 percent of your fans wear High Heels" was kinda prophetic in itself, as most of LL singles since then was female tracks :damn:

I was the Biggest LL fan, but cats are out of their mind. This was not LL at his best and it was rumored he didnt even write it! He had plenty of cats writting for him back then. His flow was not sharp at all. Everyone remember 2nd round ko, Ripper strikes back is rarely talked about. why is that?

 I don't know what you're talking about b. I guess you forgot that Canibus and his record label promoted the HELL out of 2KO. They did a video and they were PAYING radio stations to play it. Ripper Strikes Back, on the other hand, was released on a bonus Survival of the Illest cd. And this was before the internet was popping with music. With that said, LL still won the battle and there is still much discussion about the battle. As for the RUMORS, that's what they are, RUMORS. Does that take his credibility away bc LL came harder than Canibus and his people thought? So they made up a bs rumor. If Canibus thought LL's diss was so wack, why confront Eminem? IT MUST HAVE STUNG LIKE A MUTHAFUKA....As for the flow, are you serious? Spit that joint.

But Canibus was stupid for letting that phone call get out. He showed everyone that HIS SONG WAS BS. He did it for promotion. They discussed it, agreed to squash it and do some future music and then Canibus STILL made that song. Where would he be today, if he had just waited, like LL asked. I personally think that LL would have extended himself more in an effort to ensure that Canibus didn't misunderstand his motives. Honestly, WHERE WOULD CANIBUS BE TODAY IF HE DIDN'T DO THIS DISS? That phone call is clear that Canibus let the B!TCH IN HIM WIN and he gave in to his own insecurities and the ear gnawing of people who saw the idea of getting money of LL Cool J. Canibus was weak and he got used by his own label and Wyclef. Why do you think Wyclef was all in the middle? To get paid. When it didn't go down like they thought, he was nowhere to be found.

If Canibus didn't drop this song, would he be pulling out pads in rap battles with amateurs? :merchant:

Canibus would probably have signed to Def Jam instead of Columbia. He was heavily affiliated with them and it was back when they were doing good too and promoting heavy (DMX blew up soon afterwards, don't know if rocafella was already partnered up with them, Meth and Red...)

But i still think what messed with his head is that if he left it behind the scenes, the other people on the track (Meth and Red) would always know that LL had the balls to diss Canibus on a track he was featured on and Canibus did nothing. Mix that with his lyrical content of being the supreme lyrical emcee who could never lose a battle and he would have felt compromised forever. In a way, LL forced his hand. Why couldn't LL just change his verse? anyway, it happened the way it did and we still got a classic hip hop battle out of it...

LL didn't roast nothing. The streets still cosigned "2nd Round K.O." over anything LL dropped. LL got Canibus on "4,3,2,1" cause he re-did his verse. But he did win that round. Canibus fired his a$$ with "2nd round K.O.". The Lyrics, The Beat, The video. For Canibus to basically be unknown at that point to drop a diss so hard against a certified Hip Hop Legend was amazing back in the day. "The Ripper Strikes Back" had some lines but it was WAY to long, LL was screaming and all emotional. It was clear "2nd Round K.O." got under his skin. Canibus is LL's only L on wax. Normally I would never agree with a rookie going at a Legend under any circustance. But LL was so damn arrogant back then.

Meth and Red both said Canibus didn't mean any harm with the "Mic on the Arm" line but LL took it personal. KRS tried to co-sign the "Mic on the arm" was a diss too when it wasn't. The only reason people say LL won is cause Canibus career never took off which was more Wyclef's fault than Canibus. Wyclef was the executive Producer on his LP and he though it was smart to have Canibus rapping over those gutair beats instead of getting him real Grimey NY producers at the time. Canibus should of been rapping over Premo, The Hitmen and other more street producers at the time. Even L.E.S. or the Tracksmasters. But the Fugees sound didn't gel with Canibus. Clark Kent was the only outside Fugees producer on the album. Reguarless the LP actually ended up going Gold but was considered a disappointment cause everyone was expecting it to be Classic cause Canibus went on a killing spree with all those features in 97.

LL also is considered the winner cause of politics. With the power LL had back then he basically blacked balled Canibus and made him an underground rapper. In the end I'll say what I said in 1998. Canibus got him. "2nd Round K.O." was actually a hit song on the charts. People were really feeling what Canibus was saying about LL. It was Top 30 on the Hot 100. Top 5 on the Rap/RnB charts and even went Gold. "The Ripper Strikes Back" was basically mixtape status. Also everyone remembers "The Greatest Rapper of all time Died on March 9th". That lyrics has stood the test of time. Canibus won. LL Knows it, Hip Hop knows it. I still can't believe Wyclef produced that beat. If he would of had more beats like this on Canibus Debut it could of been better. The bottom line is 2nd Round K.O. = Ether. Ripper Strikes Back = Super Ugly (Emotional)
