LOL @ the Chinese basketball team running iso's on old Nique in one of those international games.

Seriously though....the Ice Man, Alex English, Adrian Dantely and a lot of those players were one dimensional as fukk....just pure offense. They didn't get bashed for not bringing it on the defensive end like a lot of these dudes today.

MJ really set the bar on what it is to be considered a dominant wing player.

yeah, I have to cosign this.

I think its a bad thing too. There is nothing wrong with being a great scorer, yet too many clown those players now.

Agreed. That's how I look at Melo or KD. They're classic SFs in a sense where they're scorers. But the bar has been set where you're expected to be just as good on the defensive end, and if you're not, you're slighted for it.

Adrian Dantley was murder in the post. He either scored or got fouled..

He was 6'5..

:russ:

Isiah shytted all over him on some :demonic: shyt by orchestrating that trade for Mark Aguirre. Dantley couldn’t be stopped on the Pistons..

He got no ring :damn:

He's the greatest below the rim player I ever seen at the height. He and Mark really were twins. shyt...even Sydney Greene's bum ass would give you that Zach Randolph in the blocks. But them niqqas played NO d. LOL

this is the other thing too.

the SF position is traditionally THE position in basketball. Thats where your most talented and best perimeter scorer usually play.

Melo, Durant are all in the Dantley, Mullin, Berry lineage of great scrorers at the 3.

Being one-dimensional is not a problem if you are ELITE at that one dimension

It SHOULDN'T be....but that's not the case with today's NBA criteria.

Amazing how Paul Pierce grew into being considered a competent defender when KG showed up.

You gotta thank Bron for that. He's changing the game and thus expectations. Much like Jordan did. The NBA used to be a big man's game. Even when Magic and Bird were dueling they still had HOF bigs like Kareem and McHale and Parish and them boys. But Jordan dominated from the wing and then everybody wanted to be a volume scorer from the perimeter.

Now LeBron is making it so you have to do everything. You hear cats like KD talking about they gotta be more efficient. KD saying he needs to distribute and rebound more. Paul George taking pride in that overall game.

The age of the volume scorer is coming to an end. Sorry, Melo.

I don't think it's come to an end, though. You can be a volume scorer with adequate pieces around you, the narrative changes.

Seriously....no one is going to put James Worthy on their all defensive team. But he was a volume scorer with multiple rings.

But I agree. I seriously don't get people who put Melo and KD down for not being Lebron. Bron is who he is for a reason.

Agreed. Man to man defense wasn't stressed back then, it was a team thing. Also being the best scorer meant you were considered one of best players, Jordan switched up the whole game with his pride on defense. I remember the defensive player was a "role player", LOL.

"It was a team thing"?

What in the world is that? Dudes were giving up points with no regard. The essence of great defense was a hard ass double team back in the day unless you were an Alvin Robertson/Michael Cooper type that could do it on your own. Would watch the 80's Celts and would say "that's a HARD ASS double team!!" LOL

Did you really just call Magic Johnson a one dimensional player? :what:

Look he was never one of THE best defensive players in the league, but he sure as hell wasn't bad like some people try and make it seem. I also think a lot of people forget just how great those Showtime Lakers were defensively, yes Cooper and Kareem were the best defenders on the team, but Magic wasn't a BAD defender by any means.

Also Jerry West was an elite player on both ends of the floor.

Meaning individuals didn't play D, it was more of a team "concept", not saying it worked:pachaha:

Does it mean that he was a retard on defense? No....
