Rakim should have signed to bad boy...Diddy knew how to get you on radio and TV
i dont think that would have worked based off creative differences...he could not work with dr dre and i think people like dre and diddy tell u what they want and if you cant do it then you bushes status

For one thing Nas recreated himself,Rakim never changed to fit in,when he could have with Dr Dre.

For two Nas beefed with Jay,which prolonged his career. In rap you have to have those type of moments periodically that regain energy and interest in you, when fans begin to move on.

I would argue if Nas never beefed with Jay,and Rakim actually went foward with making music with Dre,Rakim would almost undoubtedly be held in higher regard than Nas.

But Nas isn't the reason Rakim had to take a backseat anyway,if thats what Vlad is getting at.

Yes I remember that... He probably would have limited himself without having guidance from people like Dre and Diddy knowing what sound would get air play...yeah your right Rakim wasn't gonna be dancing with Diddy in shiny suits LMAO

because the truth is the 80s rappers didn't continue to evolve and adapt, they were surpassed by the 90s rappers. NAS>>>>>RAKIM

We just talked about this, and I told you that producing is not as solitary as you think. The emcee is gonna be involved in some way. And if you look through out hip hop history, dudes like Slick Rick and Kane were making their own beats, rhyming on them, and bringing them to Marley to touch up. So this idea that goat-level rappers just show up and rhyme on any old beat that's handed to them is silly and dated. Even if they have nothing to do with the beat creation whatsoever, the MC still needs to put his/her soul into the beat and give it meaning to the audience. Beats inspire flows and rhymes 99% of the time. Beat selection is HUGE for the success of a rapper.

How much clearer can I be with this? :mindblown:

How would they be goat rappers when they're not good rappers to begin with?! :mindblown:

But what's hilarious is that you're proving my point. Dre and Diddy have GOAT level songs despite being mediocre ass rappers. "Nuthin But A G Thang", "All About the Benjamins" simply because the beats are goat. Meanwhile, the opposite is simply not true. There are no GOAT level songs with great rappers and mediocre ass beats.

Are you gonna keep deliberately trying to miss my point? And we're talking some 1+1=2 shyt. I'm getting bored :russell:

My idea is dated when you're the one bringing two examples straight out of the 80's (Slick and Kane) ? Cmon !
And Dre and Diddy are not good rappers ? You said that the rapper is only good as the beat behind him. How come these two are not good rappers despite rapping on elite beats ?

Yeah, let's act like Snoop and BIG, Lil Kim and The Lox weren't on these songs. You keep proving my point.
