Odd as it sounds a lot of emcees don't really listen to rap like that.....I know one emcee personally who I'm not gonna name...nikkas would be shocked to know he was NEVER a Hip-Hop head he was just naturally good at it and wanted to get paid all he listen to is Branford Marsalis and shyt like that.
Vince and Joey badass on the 47 minute podcast talked about how they never listened to Doggystle

Hell Vince said how he never listened to a Pac, Nas, or Biggie album and many others

so its believable that rappers dont listen to the music alot

I have no idea I just know he wasn't around where he could have made an impact and influence...at least LL was present and had hits from 93-97 and was able to survive longer.

It sucks it may not have been his fault but it's hard to explain but hip hops sound went through a drastic change sound wise from the peak of his era during the time he was gone ...he missed a whole wave of possible new fans cuz it also happened to really explode in popularity

In a small way I guess it's how young kids now will say something like 21 savage is better than Jay Z and Nas...they weren't around to understand their impact...its kind of like high school kids from 97 and up weren't around for Rakim and were more influenced by Big, Nas, Wu, Snoop, Dre

facts. even run DMC had "down with the King"

Cause he didnt make enough albums after the 80s

And its a shame but unless you Pac or Big or got a long career like Jay where its more about what you do outside of music as well, most legends get forgotten

Its crazy people put Eminem ahead of Rakim, LL, BDK

In 15 years people will probably forget Wayne too and probably Nas too and possibly cause of absence and Em cause his music aging badly. Kanye might stick around ause again hes bigger than music and into the culture, which is a bit of a silly reason but there you go

I just think Pac, Big and Jay are the only constants on all time lists

Crazy that Ra took off '92 to '97

Imagine his influence on that generation of rap if he was still participating

Imagine the collabos

Imagine him rapping about Socrates philosophies with Wu on "Triumph"

Yep. That hiatus killed his career.

It's a shame cause, unlike many of the late 80's Mc's, Rakim had the ability to shine in the mid_90's.

Stuff like these would have made a killing :

I've never heard this.

This S.O.S Tell me If you Still Care for Me Sample :wow:

This is fire tho...

Man, Rakim really wasted the second half of his career

Dope song...man Rakim should have signed to bad boy...Diddy knew how to get you on radio and TV....RA also seemed like the person who didn't like to really push their image and market themselves either

NO

Puff in the 90s would have had Rakim out of his element like Mic Geronimo

I'm cracking up and disgusted just thinking about it :scust:

Why do people play this like Mic signed to Puff... he did one song with Puff on the adlibs, while still on Blunt/TVT Records and managed by Irv... Puff ain't make him do that video or put this out as a single, lol

Rakim doesn't have nearly as many great songs as Nas. It's that simple. Lack of great production kept Rakim at a certain point.

Hip hop has always been a beat driven game. It's hilarious when people force lyricism and all that. If you don't have classic beats, no one cares.

:comeon: which albums are we talking about
