And Get At Me Dog was originally a Clue freestyle with The Lox that came out in the Fall of 97. The Get At Me Dog single dropped late Nov/early Dec 97
Get At Me Dog became a single in the first 2 months of 98 from what I remember. Either way it’s clear this nikka not from the East Coast cause X was a big deal over here way before some damn Ruff Ryders Anthem.

How was X riding the Bad Boy coat tail? Lox were actually a group he brought to Ruff Ryders and Mase was also down with Ruff Ryders before Bad Boy. Once they got signed to Bad Boy - via Ruff Ryders - it made sense for X to be on their albums & all.

I wouldn't say he rode the Bad boy coat tail, but his featires on Mase's "Take Yours" and "24 Hrs. To Live" and The Lox's "Money, Power, Respect" raised his profile significantly. There's also the fact that Faith Evans had vocals on "How's It Going Down" and The Lox and Mase are featured on the album.

DMX wasn't instrumental in bringing either Mase or The Lox to Bad Boy. Mary J. Blige brought The Lox to Puff's attention. Mase got signed after meeting Puff at Jack the Rapper on ATL (if I'm not mistaken).

I didnt bring that up to say who put who on. I was sayin that theres a obvious reason why X was featured on a Lox & Mase record.

Waah & Dee also go back with Puff through their fathers (according to themselves).

And Lox was brought to Ruff Ryders by X is what i said. Not in '99, im talking when their were little pupps coming up.

I still dont see how its riding coat tails like the other poster said. Jay was not apart of Ruff Ryders like they were. I mean its obvious that
if you're on a team, despite what label you're on, you're gonna ride together.

Its like sayin, say, ODB was riding Meths coat tail cuz he was featured on his first album twice (also on a bonus cut).

Swizz is also getting overrated and unerrated at the same time:

1) Aside from Cassidy, Swizz never MADE anyone's career.

2) Swizz's '99-'01 gets downplayed something awful. In '99, dude was everywhere. There was Ryde or Die, and Eve's debut.

3) Contrary to Coli narrative, some of Swizz's tracks still sound great.

4) Swizz was hardly a producer that anyone sought for more than a few songs on an album outside of the RR comps, X, and Eve's first two. He never excelled in that department in the way that Dre, Premo, or Timbaland did to where it didn't matter whether it was somebody as huge or legendary as Jay or Nas or whether it was unknown artist or a debut they worked on, there were artists going to them for 3-4 joints if not the bulk of an album. Swizz not so much. In fact, his hand in the RR comps, Eve, and X albums dwindled significantly.

Yeah, a lot of these dudes in here are trying to paint his career with a revisionist's brush.

This.

I'm seeing a lot of bizarre posts like Silkk, Mystikal, Master P, Busta Rhymes and others were on par with DMX on 1998. None of them were. Only artists on par with DMX in 1998 were Jay Z and Lauryn Hill. The three of them were clearly on a different level than everybody else in terms of popularity and acclaim. Then you had Puff and Mase still going strong from '97. "Lookin' At Me" and 24 Hrs. To Live" were still makong their rounds well into the summer. Puff's "Victory" and the "Been Aroind The World" remix were still hot.

Nah. Both Mase and LOX was with Ruff Ryders before Bad Boy. That’s why X was on both of their albums. This is a known fact fam. The plan was always for them to come home once Dee and Wah got their business straight. Which is what happened. Mase stayed for like another year and then retired tho.

I think he has the best first four album run of any rap artist.

I can understand why people don't like the Great Depression, but those first 3 albums...

Dee and wah managed the lox and mase right?

If they did, how come the lox wasn't mad at RR management for their discrepancies with puff?
I assume they were advised of the contract as well

Managing an artist isn't the same as them being Ruff Ryders in the sense that they were in '99. They would've been no need to get off Bad Boy if they were already Ruff Ryders and it would've been a smoother transition. By the time Ruff Ryders was founded, The Lox and Mase were already established Bad Boy artists.

Mase was never a Ruff Ryder. He was always Bad Boy and even when he went to start All Out, it was via JD's So So Def and not Ruff Ryders. All of Mase's albums came out on Bad Boy. He appeared on Ruff Ryders comps and X's album, but he was no more a Ruff Ryder than JD or Jay Z.

Ruff Ryders still piggy backed off the success of Bad Boy.

Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows. Or maybe they didn’t understand the business in a certain way at that time.
