Flesh of My Flesh didn't age that well either. Honestly his first album is the one that has aged the best and the easiest one to listen to now. Flesh of My Flesh was a good album at the time, but despite CLASSICS like Slippin, Blackout, Ready to Meet Him, and a couple of others, the production on that album just aged really badly. Some people may disagree but that late 90's early 00's Swizz Beatz sound is just not a style I can listen to easily.

We Are The Streets is the same way. fukk You is the Swizz Beatz joint on there I think everyone likes the most.
My nikkaz intro
Aint no way
It's all good
Heat
damien 2 the omen
and more. Another classic by the dark man

Yes!

If he branched out, during the era he was hot in, I would've liked to hear him over Havoc and Alchemist. In my mind those would be dope sounds but who knows. Maybe a Preem beat at some point.
Dmx would have never been a star sticking with grease. Swizz was perfect for bringing the hood to crossover without going pop and he pulled it off. Dmx would be nothing had he stayed with dame. No real hits just a couple gold albums and sorrow

Well, unpredictable which dropped in 97 went platinum with no commercial singles, and ghetto fabulous went platinum as well...."bigger" is a feeling and mystikal sold OTHER no limit albums because HIS name was on it...im bout it, and the other millerbros sold more records because FEATURING MYSTIKAL. Mystikal brought buzz TO no limit, because HERE I GO was already major as fukk before he signed.

He was more popular before rr anthem, i dont kniw how or why youre arguing that.

Btw, Ruff ryders anthem being a "worst performing single" is incredibly misleading because just BOUGHT THE ALBUM when they heard the song
Exactly, you couldnt even buy the single till it was a b side months and months after the album dropped

This rr bad boy argument is ridiculous

Lox was ALWAYS with the CREW ruff ryders
They signed with the LABEL bad boy
Ruff ryders started a record label
Lox later signed to that record label

How hard is that to understand
But they didnt really rep it till dmx made them comfortable on some harriet tubman shyt. People outside the east never heard of RR till X showed up

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
Just for further clarification.

Def jam pushed dmx masterfully. They used all their artists to build buzz. I remember that era lf def jam bejng like the return. Lots of great albums and great acts.

What a build. I cant off top remember any big dmx songs prior to these. At least pushed in main stream. If im missing something ill update.

Mase album drops oct 28 97 24 hours to live was a mixtape classic. Also on another joint. Which started his hype initially with hiphop heads and mixtape scene.

Ll cool j 4321 came out dec 9 97

Onyx shut em down ft dmx which was their lead single off def jam was a big song and video dropped february 98.

Stop being greedy march 7

Money power respect single/vid march 17

Great rundown. Ma$e dropped end of October tho. Going into November. And let’s not forget the Ice Cube We Be Clubbin remix.

I think DMX helped Swizz Beatz career more than vice versa

They helped each other. Neither were shyt on a nation wide scale when they met. However who has more hits without the other? Dmx flagship songs are with swizz. And swizz has a gang of shyt without x thats popping.

This was a great break down.
But on a side note, it makes me glad not from NY OR the east.
East coast people have a false sense on America at large.
For instance, despite this great set up THAT YOU BROKE DOWN SO WELL,SILKK had a better first week than dmx,by around 50k in feb98'. Of course dmx had the better overall year, better career and is the better artist. But people from the east will probably never know how hot SILKK and others were at the top of 98'.
Because they're bias by default.
It might not even be intentional.
I remember I met a nikka from ny in the early 00's this nikka swore IDAHIH went 16x's platinum lol

Actually "hotter" is purely feeling. Its how someone is bubbling in the culture. You are really blending post rr anthem with pre rr anthem. They came out at the exact same time; rr anthem SOLD the albums...but before that dmx was hot but mystikal WAS ALREADY goin platinum.

I am not blending pre RR Anthem with post RR Anthem. Culturally, DMX was bigger than Mystikal BEFORE RR Anthem. X was looked at as next as in post Biggie and Pav, he was looked at as the next to run rap. Mystikal wasn't viewed in that light. P and Silkk would actually be better arguments especially P. X sold 251K with IDAHIH the first week. This is with "Get At Me Dog" as the single. That's already a quarter mill. Mystikal sold 157K of Unpredictable the first week. You can't use the indy argument with Mystikal either because his albums were released on No Limit via Jive Records and not Priority. X's songs were bigger as were his features. Mystikal released his album like 6-7 months before. Mystikal didn't go platinum until 5-6 months later. X went platinum a month after release.

Silkk did not sell more in his first week than X. Silkk did 248K in his first week with CI2DG. DMX did 251K in his first week with IDAHIH. Silkk had like 2 years to build a buzz for CI2DG which started with his appearances on Ice Cream Man, TRU had a double platinum album in '97 (he was in the group). He was all over Ghetto D. Silkk dropped CI2DG led by a lukewarm single feat. Destiny's Child and Mo B. dikk. His sales were purely off buzz he spent two years building. "It Ain't My Fault" was a fan favorite before it was a single. Same goes for "Let Me Hit It". It's still arguable that he was bigger than X.

I kind of agree with this. In regard to We Are The Streets, "Recognize" and "Ryde or Die Chick" were standouts despite Swizz doing the bulk of the album.
