Silkk did not sell more in his first week than X. Silkk did 248K in his first week with CI2DG. DMX did 251K in his first week with IDAHIH. Silkk had like 2 years to build a buzz for CI2DG which started with his appearances on Ice Cream Man, TRU had a double platinum album in '97 (he was in the group). He was all over Ghetto D. Silkk dropped CI2DG led by a lukewarm single feat. Destiny's Child and Mo B. dikk. His sales were purely off buzz he spent two years building. "It Ain't My Fault" was a fan favorite before it was a single. Same goes for "Let Me Hit It". It's still arguable that he was bigger than X.
Link to silkk sales stats?

In the first half of 1998 alone, there has been a series of dramatic debuts:

* DMX's "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot" entered the charts at No. 1 the week of May 24, selling an estimated 250,000 copies.

* Silkk the Shocker's "Charge It 2 Da Game" sold 245,000 copies the week of Feb. 22, landing just behind the "Titanic" soundtrack and Celine Dion's "Let's Talk About Love."

* C-Murder's "Life or Death" also entered at No. 3 the week of March 22, with sales of more than 195,000 copies.

Watch Out for Jermaine Dupri

Breh youre being disingenuous. People bought the album because rr anthem had just dropped and was crazy hot.

How am I being disingenuous? You're in here arguing that Mystikal and others were bigger than X before "Ruff Ryders Anthem" dropped. So either you're making lopsided argument in which Mystikal and these other rappers all had albums out BEFORE X dropped IDAHIH or you're trying to tell me that "Ruff Ryders Anthem" dropping a week (if we're to believe Wiki) before the album made all the difference.

Ruff Ryder's anthem (officially) dropping a week or so before the album made all the difference.

So you're telling me a song (that probably hadn't reached all markets by the time the album dropped) that was released a week before the album made more of an impact than months of anticipation and buzz from features, being on the No Way Out Tour, and the singles that dropped before RR Anthem.

So who's really being disingenuous? You're comparing an artist who dropped an album six months prior to an artist who didn't have an album out. Then you're saying the artist who had put an album out 6 months earlier was hotter up until a week before the artist who had no album at that point was about to drop. If that makes sense yo you, so be it.

I just can’t remember a time in 98 where Silk The Shocker or Mystikal being more poppin than DMX. Lol. Before or after RR Anthem. X was being looked at as the next PAC n shyt. nikkas was actin like dude was NEEDED in the rap game. Not just wanted.

What I took from this thread that’s wrong as fukk.

Swizz Beatz made DMX. Even tho nobody would know who Swizz is without DMX

DMX wasn’t poppin before Ruff Ryders anthem. Even tho he had a hit single and did a million hot features months leading up to it.

The Lox and Mase weren’t Ruff Ryders before Bad Boy even tho Dame Grease, PK and an unknown Swizz are on they first album with Swizz producing one of the best solo Jadakiss songs in his career on that same album. Which are the same producers who produced the whole DMX first album.

Dame Grease can’t make hits. Even tho he produced “If You Think I’m Jiggy”, “We’ll Always Love Big Poppa” and “Get At Me Dog” all hit records that released before IDAHIH dropped.
