That song was still gritty even for something produced by Nokio who basically produced Dru Hill records and didn't really touch Hip Hop like that. Even before that song became a single, it was one of the records that was a go-to joint from that album.

It was nice but again X music was gritty. If anything that was def jam move.

THANK YOU

ive been saying this for years on here. I even did a whole thread about this.

thing is, most of this board didn't really become cognizant until after the Viacom, radio & label mergers. theyre more familiar with rappers being 5 albums past their prime but still in the limelight.

a lot of people here think 2pac & biggie would still be relevant in 2017.

I think artists in this era do a better job maintaining relevance by using ghostwriters and helping each other out with features.

Dmx isn’t the type of guy to use a ghostwriter if he’s and his work was typically in house.

yea, those two in the same thread is bad for business.

I started side-arguments with both of them, in hopes of keeping them from arguing with each other.

that chit is deadly.

I mean, I do agree with him that its the song that propelled X to that household level. its easily his biggest hit off the 1st album BUT its not 75 million views bigger than his other singles/appearances in '98.

that's a classic tho.

my favorite DMX single actually.:yeshrug:
Nah my issue is this nikka talkin bout Swizz MADE DMX. That shyt is just ridiculous. X was a star before RR Anthem. RR Anthem propelled him to a higher plateau. But it didnt make him who he was. Its just one song off a classic album that had other hit singles on it. That one just happened to be the biggest. To say Swizz made X is undermining to X as an artist. Noone else in the world couldve done what X did for that record.

This.

Grease is more responsible for X than Swizz. "Ruff Ryders Anthem" did more for Swizz than it did for X.

Swizz came up with the beat
convinced x to do it
Came up with the chants
Came up with the hook

nikka hes a producer. Of course. The fukk? No other nikka couldve done what X did to that shyt. And lets get it straight. nikkas know the verses to that song just as much as the hook. Especially that first verse. “nikkas wanna try, nikkas wanna lie...” etc etc. U smokin crack tryna strip credit away from X like this.

Get At Me Dog and Stop Being Greedy didnt embody X? Yet a song u barely give him credit for does? X has more songs along the lines of Get At Me Dog and Stop Being Greedy than RR Anthem. Especially Stop Being Greedy. U a corny ass DMX fan. Lol. U dont even fukk wit the shyt that made the streets fall in love wit him. How the fukk was “Get At Me Dog” forced? Theres more of an argument for RR Anthem being forced than Get At Me Dog. Get At Me Dog video didnt get play on the biggest video channel out at the time. It didnt have a radio version. Yet it still sold records. Thats about as authentic as it gets . DMX and Swizz themselves would slap the shyt outta u for saying some of the shyt u saying.
