DXL hard white still goes hard... :dahell: Da fukk you talking about man???

He said AFTER that album :pachaha:

And you're correct OP, Grand Champ and Great Depression were mediocre, and pretty much spelled the end of X making appealing music. Both those albums had a couple cool songs (Who We Be and the one with Styles and 50), but overall, they were just meh. Don't even get me started on Year of The Dog and Undisputed :hhh::hhh:

1.snoop was on his death-bed going into '98 before master p saved him.
2.busta rhymes was a big commercial commodity(whose album sales were below par, given the amount of exposure & promotion he had). same with his labelmate missy Elliot, who you are forcing into this conversation for some odd reason. that's really all they were tho.

3.why are you listing stuff from 1994? what are you on?

4lol @ jay-z being bigger than DMX. volume one was considered a disappointment and a huge sophomore slump.

5I see you already got schooled on that "bad boy coat-tails" comment. whats funny is, jay was the one riding bad boy's coat-tails in '97 & most of '98.

6I'm saying dame is an album cut guy and timbaland is a singles guy. theyre in the same boat. just on different sections of the ship.......I know I know - timbaland has way more hits & made way more money. blah blah blah
1.Snoop was definitely in trouble due to deathrow drama.
But career wise, his most recent album up to that point did 420k the first week and sold 2mil. If he stepped into a room with dmx in 1998 (prior to rr anthem) he'd definitely was the bigger star. Dmx was doing more at the time but not enough to put him on snoop's level

2.At the top of 98' busta had just dropped two albums in early 96/late 97' that went gold and plat. Had classic hits. Was featured on mase album, puffy's,missy's. But X was bigger cause of...?

3.That's part of silkk's build up,when i was first introduced to him. But if you wanna hate on that,we'll just go directly to the fact that charge it to the game did 300k out the gate in feb 98'. While X only did 250K in his first week in may. (so that;s that on that)

4.Jay had reasonable doubt and In my lifetime vol1 plus the features,he was bigger.

5.How did i get schooled? And i agree jay was on bad boy's coat tails

6.And it's nonsense.

You could dame's more grimy east coast boredom, unsuccessful beat making . And tim's more dope, got this shyt popping, everybody vibing beat making.
Can he see tim, album for album on the beats,FUKK NO!
Disagree,let me know

Wow really?

Most people say the opposite for x that he should have added more to his repretoire
Looking at his comeback album where he did no pump it up music and it failed I have come to that conclusion.

IDAHIH has the tenth highest first week sales of rap albums in 98',but let delusional nikkas tell it,he was the hottest nikka on earth before RR anthem blew. NAW
Tical 2000 did 400K the first week
I guess x was bigger than him regardless too, lol. RR anthem made that nikka like i said. Without it he'd been a small fry and shiny suits would have remained in power. Lox stay on Badboy. RR dont get the interscope deal. Nothing

After his 24 Hours to Live verse in 97. And 4321 verse in 97. His name was bubblin. By the top of the next year when he did Money Power Respect and his other features. And released Get At Me Dog and Stop Being Greedy. X was that nikka starting off 98 fam. But love X got by the time he dropped his album was unprecedented. Especially after. And that wasn’t just cause of Ruff Ryders Anthem. It was a classic track. And nikkas loved it. But it was the other tracks on that album that brought u into his world.

I remember back in November 97, when people were SCREAMING about DMX and "X is coming!" Shirts in all black. That hype the last 6 months before his first album was unreal.

can we all agree on this timeline??
@bigbadbossup2012 @spliz @ZEB WALTON
AND EVERYBODY ELSE!!!

1.- DMX had the goat guest-spot run, and it began in '97, leading into his album & beyond into '99.
2the anticipation for his album was huge, and it was an instant smash. long before "ruff ryder anthem", which was the fourth & final video.
3. "get at me dog" was his highest charting single
- "hows it goin down" was the album's biggest radio hit
4 "ruff ryder anthem" was the most popular single off the album, and arguably his most popular single period. definitely his signature song. and it took his career to that NEXT LEVEL. it catapulted him into a potential household name.

5so did ruff ryder anthem make DMX' career?? of course not.

but it was definitely the most effective hit on the album..........altho, it was an album that was already HUGE long before the video.

also, I agree with @bigbadbossup2012 about how the RR Anthem single wasn't serviced properly in order to be a chart-topper on billboard. the charts are always mis-leading. taking nothing away from his other singles.
1.goat guest spot run? it's in the convo, not sure if it's goat though.
2/3.It was alright,he was heating up. Personally when i heard Get at me dog i was let down, like "i thought this nikka was gon be dope" following the features. IMO get at me dog was "bring it we right here " status to the general public outside the east coast. Who we be, meant more on the streets than that,by far (i know different albums, just making a point)

4. Of course it is,without it,X does not become a hiphop don or change the direction of anything. He'd end up being known for How's it going down, probably do a remix wearing a shiny wife beater featuring mase.

5.Yea it made him. He'd never been a king without it. Get a couple dollars, sure. But becoming a megastar,NO.

actually, swizz was the PERFECT producer to lead the east coast thru that era.

puff & the hitmen deaded all that '90s boom-bap chit. they brought the party element back to the forefront. then swizz kept the party jumping while bringing the street element back into it. sure, he benefited from his bloodline, making it easier to get on, but the timing being perfect for his production played just as much of a role.

and his style really wasn't even unorthodox. especially in comparison to the neptunes, who were breaking thru. shoot, swizz beatz was reminiscent of the original '80s boom bap. the stuff that made hip-hop a mainstay.

respect from whom?? backpackers?? let all those rap snobs & so-called purists play the wall & beat their meat. swizz was the people's champion. that's what the people wanted to hear. and it was brutally obvious, despite whatever crying that dudes like premo and/or pete rock and them were doing. they had their time, and truth be told, they dropped the ball. if the east coast had a swizz in the early-mid '90s, the west coast wouldn't have been kicking our ass so bad.

realest post I ever wrote.........this week.
AGREED

1I said there’s people out there who liked Get At Me Dog more. And no that shyt wasn’t “all over tv”. .2Stop lying. MTV refuses to play the video. 3That or Stop Being Greedy. 4.Get At Me Dog didn’t even have a radio version. shyt was bleeped out all over the place to where u could barely hear any lyrics. 5I don’t give a shyt how many YouTube views RR Anthem got currently. I’m talking about real time. RR Anthem went on to be the song it is now for a plethora of reasons. 6shyt ended up in movies and everything. And this is AFTER 98. 7There’s a bunch of reasons why it’s where it is now as far as YouTube compared to other songs in his catalog.8 U come off ass a nikka who didn’t fukk wit X until everyone else started to. Which is why ur view on his career is the way it is.9 Honestly it may be cause I’m an NY nikka and u not from here is why u look at shyt different. And why me and @FreshAIG have a different view of things than u.
1.And youtube views prove otherwise. Cant contrast to billboard cause RR anthem wasnt for sale till months after the album dropped,on a b-side to slippin

2.I seen get at me dog on tv as much as rr anthem.

3.I agree on STOP BEING GREEDY

4.
DMX - Get At Me Dog

A1 Get At Me Dog (Radio Edit)Featuring – Sheek Of The Lox*Producer – Grease*, PK* 3:06
5.It was just the better song.,had the world saying "oh you thought you rawww, boom not anymore" "... that's how ruff ryders roll"
nikkas wasnt singing that wack ass get at me dog shyt the same way

6.What movies?

7. Lol excuses excuses

8. :russell:

9.Yes,you're bias to the ny experience.

:what: nikka X wasn’t famous in 97. He was just getting buzz. Both Mase and LL songs came out at the end of 97. shyt the LL song was released in December. Which is why I said TOP OF 98 is when he really started poppin.
And Get At Me Dog was originally a Clue freestyle with The Lox that came out in the Fall of 97. The Get At Me Dog single dropped late Nov/early Dec 97

Facts. When 4,3,2,1 dropped I was like “Who is this nikka” then when Money, Power and Respect dropped I was sold. By time Get At Me Dog dropped I was the biggest X nikka in the world.

Back then Canibus, X and Nore had shyt on lock. Then Cam and Punisher were like right there too. As far as the streets
Then top of 98, X Canibus and Nore had that historic freestyle on Flex show. The video for Get At Me Dog was filmed at The Tunnel when the Tunnel was at its peak. Also it was filmed by the hottest director at the time Hype Williams. Months before RR Anthem.
