Some parents put material success over wellbeing of their children.

I just had a discussion about this with some friends. Black parents keep doing this and it's not good for anyone. You end up with a relationship like thread starter has where they treat you like a failure for being a every day person and you end up resenting them. But we live in a community where mental health issues go unaddressed because "you not depressed, you just lazy." or "Ain't nothing wrong with you."

I honestly don’t care how non-sympathetic the sounds but just because it some of y’all daddies died or been there is a accomplishment is BS.

Their are a lot of fukkED up parents who should never had access to kids. OP your dad doesn’t sound like one of those but he was reckless with you.

Fathers can be disciplinary and loving. If anything you need to confront your mother about not talking to him about that...cause your parents should have Address that

There are too many adults living with issues that had growing up as a child.

You need to get over it. If your beyond 18 talk that shyt your a loser, it's like a 35 year old woman talking that same shyt "the reason why I'm a hoe is because my dad left when I was 8." bytch please your 35 years old.

OP isn't wrong for having a problem with how he was raised. A lot of these people that had a father, mother or both parents that were tough on them wish they could have had more support and love growing up. My Dad didn't teach me much period and I learned more from my Uncles than from this nikka :manny:

Could be worse though, could have had no father and been raised by women which looking at men in person and online who were raised by women I would never want to end up like some of these feminine lames.

When I got in the car I asked him why he had to embarrass me and he replied " you embarrass yourself."
