This is NOT a good thing and my mind is blown because Im fairly sure you typed it as if it is.

Harden CAN defend when he wants to. We saw it when he was on OKC with less responsibilities and we see it now in spurts. He is just lazy.

The saddest thing about Steph is that, like you said, he's out there actually TRYING on defense and still getting rolled.

Harden is actually a passable 1on1 defender. The problem is his off ball/team defense being terrible. Getting consistently beat backdoor/leaving shooters wide open for three b/c you're caught ball watching or dying on a screen is a lot more detrimental to a defense than getting beat in isolation where if blown by the help D can cover for you.

Curry's a good team defender. Harden is one of the worst I've ever seen

Also, Curry is worse on defense than Harden but the Warriors do a much better job of covering it up. Admittedly, Harden looks dumber on bad defensive plays because he's just looking around. Which makes him an easier target to make fun of.

They were a lot more consistent last season (which is partly down to every single team giving their best effort this season, drop off of the second unit, 4th quarter free-for-alls and pacing themselves). Even despite that, they're still #1= in defensive FG% and #1 in defensive 3-pt%. They're still basically the same squad - which is why I said they're a historically great defensive team - tying in from last season.

They're pretty much the only team to ever rank as the #1 defensive rated team while playing at the fastest pace in the league, certainly in the modern era.

I think why Harden gets a worse rep, is because it looks like he doesn't try. I don't think Steph has the skills to do it. But Harden doesn't even care. That video of Harden on defense was just brutal to watch
