Lupe was signed to a major and in doing that, it comes with a compromise that most if not all artists have had to make. Lupe was supposed to drop a triple disc set, which possibly would've gotten him out of his contract, but Atlantic wasn't having that considering "Shining Down" didn't do that well. We ended up getting Lasers, which ended up being his most commercially successful album. Some of those pre-packaged songs ended up being his most commercially successful. A label is looking at an artist in Lupe's position as them knowing more than he did. What's his argument against them when they can just say we handed you your most successful album?
