I interpret it a little differently. It's not about self respect as individuals but self respect as a people. Caring for each other and looking out for one another is respecting ourselves. If we truly hold ourselves in high regard than we won't accept poverty, racism and discrimination. We would truly be united against it. It's not about having self respect and white's will magically accept us as civilised equals. It's about having so much respect for ourselves as a people that we would willingly stand up for each other. That we would look out for each other and truly care about the lives of our own people.
