The new trilogy is something else entirely. LupEND was supposed to be a triple-disc to be done with his contract once and for all, since he was already dealing with label politics on The Cool as Dumb It Down's hook was taken straight from a label meeting. Atlantic wasn't having it and the concept was history, resulting in what we have now as Lasers, F&L2 and Tetsuo&Youth. The actual concept has since been explained tho:

Well since he went the trap route on this record it would make more sense that the album is more ignorant hence the cussing. He didn't curse that much in T&Y.

1st Lupe album I can appreciate riding to instead of appreciate walking around the crib with my headphones to.... the last few tracks minus the final 1 kill the vibe tho
Didnt really care for the album that much. Tranquilo and NGL were both solid. City of the Year was good (with the exception of the last verse). The two songs I really liked were 'Jump' and 'Dopamine.' If Lupe's gonna make more "mainstream" sounding music, I'd like him to make music that sounds like that. The rest of the album was either 'eh' or just bad. 5/10 for me.
It makes me sad that I'm the only one who loves It's Not By Design
I actually fukk with the untouchables in this album. I can't listen to them as part of the album, but as stand alone songs I enjoy them. The album has a particular vibe, but for those 3 songs you're taken instantly to another place, another experience. It works especially because I know he did it in purpose.
TL;DR: The song works because of just how chill the whole album is. Plus it's not actually bad in its own right.
Also, pick up the phone has ringtone potential.
That's literally the whole point of the undesirable three I feel.
It's Not Design is some super sunny xtreme sports/beach/volleyball type song. shyt you bump at a beach party basically.
Wild Child is something similar, and the chorus is actually dope. Reminds me of them summer radio hits!
Pick Up The Phone is also a radio song, but a sing along inside the car type of the song while thinking about your ex or something.
