He overthinks the song process and thus has little balance between super lyrical conceptual stuff and making songs that are actually good. Nas has concept stuff like I Gave You Power but he can also do something like Made You Look. With Lupe I feel like a lot of his stuff exists to prove something we already know: that he's really good at concepts and witty lyrics. Yea ok but what about making dope songs?

T&Y has stuff I really enjoy but also tracks that make me go "why?" It's a step in the right direction though. I enjoyed his first two albums obviously but he lost me with Lasers and the one after that.

He can try to be overly complex and it comes off as pretentious and try hard. He does what battle rappers get accused of doing and that's trying to be super nerdy metaphorical on songs rather than just making sure the lines connect with the audience. There's a balance. I think Ras Kass at his peak did it perfectly.

He's monotone too.

With that said, I like quite a bit of his music. He's also an attention seeking fukk boy as well. That doesn't help.

Agree with the bolded 100%. Ras has a mixture of everything.

For me, it's the discography is not as strong as it should be with someone of his skill-set.

F&L is my favorite Lupe album. I love Kick, Push and Hurt Me Soul but the album as a whole sitting down listening to it for a whole hour becomes boring and a chore. Them rap rock beats he used to try and finesse are trash.

Dude is very overrated on here.

Lupe is offkey, can not pocket flows because of the deficiencies in his skill set.
Which also has an outdated technical rubrick to the sonic landscape.
Which is why he won't improve and also why pop fans have a disconnect.
So, called toy rap fans have fooled themselves using hiphopinfinity sellout pass based semantics to crown him like the emo jayz.
When he really is the actual rapper who created the template to the overproduced u2 ripoff rap pop record.

Yep, I don't understand why he chooses the beats that he does, but if he got with some southern producers I think you would see a uptick, because he can give you content.
