I don't think Lupe is cultural appropriator but a partly a ADOPTER of Japanese culture.
His belief system is in part Japanese. Arguably with strains of African culture including strains if any, of African culture in Black American culture.

I understand what you are saying - but he is a descendent of the enslaved. He knows nothing of Africa but his ancestors were sold from there. It appears - what he has learned (or chose to learn about - as it relates to him personally) about Africa is this history and ongoing practice of Slavery.

And just because his ancestors were from there -- that is all he knows of it - since he was cut off from the continent.

I personally feel like he has some resentment that stems from the Slave Trade and West Africa's role.

You can hear it all up in many of his social commentary vlogs.
