Whether you can find various historical accounts of select figures using that term or not tha fact remains most black people aren't using that term in everyday life as an identifier except for filling out paperwork. So was it really something that black folk as a whole self appointed or was it something a few prominent historical figures chose to identify as?

Most people use it as/in a formal setting. "Black" is still the most common because it's purely RACIAL and not based on national origin; since most "Aframs" identify by RACE, first

Yes, it's a term the people gave themselves along with "black". Both terms were commonly used by Aframs in the North which would later spread South where it would be embraced in mass

Equally pathetic as the Americans buying dashikis then claim African not knowing that shyt is only a think in certain West African countries.

Picking up a few sword lessons and reading about Japanese history wont ever make him one.

Cultural appropriation at its best :scust:

Can't rock with anybody tryna discard the Black.

AFRICAN American over here.
Dapping this post.

How you a whole rapper whose entire musical sensibilities are informed by your
African Ancestry and you're talking about you're culturally "Japanese" cause you
like Videogames and Anime.

I got news for Lupe, I've played many JRPG's, watched an obscene amount of Anime and I own
a large collection of Videogames. Some of my Heroes are dudes like Mas Oyama and Gichin Funakoshi or
Hideo Kojima and Shigeru Miyamoto but I also acknowledge that I'm BLACK, so Huey Newton, Martin Luther King,
Miles Davis, Jay-Z etc. and several others in our history inspire me or influence my thinking.

Can't be king "super duper black culture critic" or whatever talking about you're Japanese Culturally.

shyt gets no points with me a fellow "Nerd".

And yet, another post that transfigures what he said and runs with it.

Lupe like most of you on this board was born in America and is influenced by African-American. You see that American part? That is a modifier, a sign that what he knows isn't African only but a mixture.

He was asked about Africa, by itself and responded the way he did about Africa.

Twitter is often lamented on their hair trigger reactions but this place isn't any different.

Headline is not the article.

You're an idiot.

Black Music changed the world over and it's directly because Africa.
:dead:

Blues Scale and it's African Origins =

https://www.quora.com/How-did-the-blues-scale-originate

My breh @IllmaticDelta 's informative thread:
https://www.thecoli.com/threads/“the-blues-are-the-roots-everything-else-is-the-fruits”-willie-dixon.298131/

Blues morphed into several different things but as it relates to Hip-Hop
It morphed into Funk, Jazz, Soul & Rock N' Roll the foundational ingredients for Hip-Hop.
You can hear the Swing in J. Dilla, The Jazz in Pete Rock and the Blues in
Mary J. Blige

There is no Jazz without Africa, some of the most influential figures in the genre were directly influenced by AFRICA.
Brehs tryna remove the African from African American like it has no historical or cultural significance.

:blessed:
Be well my breh if you're actually a breh.
The posts to you stop here my man.
:blessed:

Divide and conquer strategy. The self hate is too blatant.
Even Classic southern cuisine has African roots. That African hate is too real.

There's no message there, in fact the whole statement you bolded is faulty.

"How you a whole rapper whose entire musical sensibilities are informed by your
African Ancestry and you're talking about you're culturally "Japanese" cause you
like Videogames and Anime."

1st off, his whole musical sensibilities are not informed by his "African heritage", they are informed by his experience as an "African American"/ADOS/FBA, lets be clear.

2nd, anybody that follows Lupe, knows that he's not just talking videogames and anime when he says he's more culturally Japanese, he means that the way he thinks, lives, and acts is more in tune with Japanese philosophy as opposed to African philosophy.

He studies and practices Japanese martial arts, which is a holistic system of living, encompassing how you think, act, and live your life.
breh my younger brother is a fukking 2nd degree black belt in taekwando, most of his
friends are asian however that don't make my brother more "Korean" in culture.

:snoop:

If he's talking about the african influences (syncopation) that are inherit because of the slave trade? That part is true. If he means signs of contemporary african influences? That part is false. That part is actually the reverse; as you just said.

I'm talking the former and while we're at it the influence of African Music isn't just syncopation. Let's say we did stop at syncopation and rhythm though, it's still the guiding hand in all Black American Music and has been for the past century or so and if anything it's an example of the lasting effects of Africa on the Black American.

My ideas about music and particularly Black American Music doesn't fall to far from a lot of my personal musical heroes.

And as I'm certain you know, rhythm and syncopation were at times purposefully over emphasized in the music to reinforce it's Black(African) Origins (Hip-Hop, Jazz and Funk) all have several easily searchable movements which show this.

Obviously contemporary diasporic music is heavily influenced by Black Americans simply by the sheer influence of and over exposure to American Culture in general but brehs need not forget the catalyst to all this shyt.

There is no jazz, blues, funk, soul, rock n' roll or Hip-Hop without the slave trade and the clash of culture it causes.

I'm sure I'm not telling you anything my breh @IllmaticDelta but the breh @Cadillac seems a bit off in his assumptions about my stance on or knowledge of black music.

Trust @Cadillac I didn't order all of these books because I have no interest in music theory or how it relates to Black American Music.
I'm really about this Jazz, Hip-Hop, Blues etc. shyt.

After this though, I'm dipping out on this thread :yeshrug:
I'll lurk or whatever but The Coli's Hero Worship and dikk Riding is exactly why
my posting is to a minimum.
